What’s so funny about Beverly Hills Ninja is that it makes fun of Hollywood’s obsession with Asian culture and the common trope the industry uses. That is having a white guy as the main character in what should be an Asian film. Hence The Last Samurai is of course a white man. American Ninja, yep, it’s a white man. That's because the movie industry is racist and doesn't believe Asians can lead their own films. Here Chris Farley plays that role as Haru who is literally called The Great White Ninja, but instead of being the hero he is actually a complete buffoon. He was supposed to be the chosen one, but he can’t get anything right. The actual hero of the film is Robin Shou as Gobei who has to follow Haru around to make sure he doesn’t get killed. That leaves Farley to do all the comedy and he is fantastic in that role. All together this is why Beverly Hills Ninja is such a laugh. Farely’s physical comedy is hilarious. Chris Rock as Joey is also in there, and you get to laugh at Hollywood as well because I don’t think they even knew how ironic this film was.
