The witch has grown the biggest pumpkin ever, and now she wants to make herself a pumpkin pie for Halloween. But the pumpkin is so big she can't get it off the vine.
It’s so big the ghost can’t move it, either. Neither can the vampire, nor the mummy. It looks as if there’ll be no pumpkin pie for Halloween, until along comes the bat with an idea to save the day.
How can the tiny bat succeed where bigger and strong spooky creatures have failed? You'll be surprised!

The illustrations are great for group sharing, without being too scary. All of these scary creatures get to show their softer side as they end up at witch's house eating pumpkin pie. I am so glad this book is still easily available in hardcover. I think this is the third copy I've purchased and look forward to telling this one every year. If you haven't used Big Pumpkin in your story time, you are missing a great opportunity for Halloween fun!

This is/was my favorite Halloween book. It is a familiar theme in children’s literature, but I have to say this is the best version. It presents the opportunity to discuss the value of team work. The characters are funny. The illustrations are perfection. The dialogue among the characters is engaging and welcomes participation. I used voices and actions/motions to move the story along.
“Big Pumpkin” was one of those books that always got the response, “Again! Read it again!”
The story also emphasizes cooperation in an age appropriate way. Children can relate to it and understand the importance without thinking that somebody is out to teach them a lesson.

La strega ha piantato una zucca che è diventata troppo grande e che ora non riesce a spostare. A provare a spostarla arrivano il fantasma, il vampiro, poi la mummia e infine il pipistrello che pur essendo il più piccolo riesce nella missione! Come mai? Perché è l'unico a cui è venuto in mente di tirare la zucca tutti insieme.
