In Big Shot, book 16 of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series from number-one international best-selling author Jeff Kinney, Greg Heffley and sports just don't mix. After a disastrous field day competition at school, Greg decides that when it comes to his athletic career, he's officially retired. But after his mom urges him to give sports one more chance, he reluctantly agrees to sign up for basketball.
Tryouts are a mess, and Greg is sure he won't make the cut. But he unexpectedly lands a spot on the worst team. As Greg and his new teammates start the season, their chances of winning even a single game look slim. But in sports, anything can happen. When everything is on the line and the ball is in Greg's hands, will he rise to the occasion? Or will he blow his big shot?
See the Wimpy Kid World in a whole new way with the help of Greg Heffley's best friend in the instant number-one best sellers Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid: Rowley Jefferson's Journal, Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Adventure, and Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories!

As another review mentions, the repetiveness. I don't like that part, but where is Rowley??
Seems like the author is just throwing stuff out there. Many more pictures in this book than the others in my opinion. More pictures and less words. I hope the next one is better.
The pros of this book were that it was very intriguing and funny. Jeff Kinney really executed making Greg, a clumsy middle school kid in this book. The beginning was just amazing! Greg’s mom and dad kept on trying and trying to get him into sports until he tried out for the middle school basketball team and made it! Except, on a horrible team. They kept on losing and losing in a tournament for the worst of the worst teams. Then they made it to the final game, and Greg hit the game-winning shot backwards! I liked how Jeff Kinney let them win because if they didn’t win, the book wouldn’t have felt as complete.
Now for the cons of the book. I didn’t enjoy the last quarter of the book as much because it was kind of repetitive on how they kept losing. I just wish that Kinney could have spiced it up as he did in his last fifteen books. Another thing I disliked was that it felt rushed. The ending of the book just made it seem that Kinney had run out of ideas. All they did was go out for ice cream after the win. Like come on, he definitely could have made it better. What I would have done differently was show how Greg’s dad felt and maybe he would have been proud of him because he and his dad never really connected. It would have made the reader more emotionally connected to the book.
In all seriousness though, Jeff Kinney is an amazing author and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone that likes graphic novels and even sports!

We were on the tram 🚃 to school 🏫 and he was reading it whilst other adult commuters were watching him with his leg crossed, book 📕 opened and engrossed so much so he wasn’t concerned about the world going by him.
There were random outbursts of laughter from his little cheeky chubby face as he looked up at me smiled and went straight back in.
He gets off the tram with book still opened, reading it whilst I’m guiding him crossing the road to make his way to school. He gets to school looks up and around him and says “woah…how did we get here so fast!”
Amazing book that keeps children entertained and adult happy 😃 👍🏼👍🏼

However just found them today, too big to go through letterbox so courier had hidden them from view. Courier had also kindly put them in a big plastic bag so nice and dry. 10/10 thanks!!

Update: I read it and it is truly amazing, but not as good as all the other Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, also it is pretty pricey for what you get but other than that it is a great book.
