Adryan
I was ruthless, brutal. A sociopath by all accounts. The leader of the American Vampire Clan, a male who all feared because I was merciless.
And then I found my mate. Kayla. So fragile. Breakable. So human.
I’d make her mine, and she’d hate me for it. I wanted to give her pain with pleasure, wanted to break her skin and lick up the blood I spilled...take Kayla into me like she’d take me into her.
I’d have her surrendering to my needs. I’d give her my body but wouldn't be able to give her my heart.
How could I when it wasn’t something I had to offer, when I was nothing but a coldhearted killer?
So when the threats come to my front door, it’s time to show my female she’s mated to the most dangerous vampire in the world.

Well, it does take a little over halfway for them to get to their first sexual scene, and all I have to say is you really need to enjoy superlatively arrogant males, with an insecure bit of masochism to get into this one. Secondarily they talk an awful lot about all the depraved things he wants to do to her-- and the female lead in turn talks about all the depraved things she wants to be done to her, it's brought up repeatedly on both fronts -- and when they finally start having sex there is a lot of dirty talk, and he is not gentle, but this doesn't stray into the BDSM genre as series readers might have expected from mention of Adryan's sex clubs in previous books. While the sexual encounters are not what I would call making love or gentle, they are not nearly as risque as the buildup leads to believe. Now, I don't need super kinky I don't need sadism or masochism, in fact I don't like either, however it was rather anticlimactic after the build-up.
I agree with other reviewers who said Adryan talks about what a badass he is all the time, and how dangerous he is, and it kind of takes away from the air of that danger, in fact it makes him seem desperate for approval almost. I found all of Adryan's posturing to be more of a turnoff and a distraction from true strength and depravity than a buildup for it.
The most emotional moment in the book for me was when they were fighting the true villains to free the captives and Adryan's nephew was injured. Besides the plot error mentioned above and a few other typographical errors it wasn't as bad as some previous volumes. So much time was spent building up to the first sexual encounter, that there wasn't a lot of room left in the book for other plot and the last half seemed rather rushed. For my part, I could have used a bit more character development for Adryan's violent nature through the eyes of Adrian's peers and through our female lead's experiences. There wasn't much in the way of her seeing him in action to justify his brutal reputation (at least until the rescue scene), and most of his reputation was from him running his own mouth. I'd rather see it than be told about it, in other words.
Overall it was a diverting read and it goes quickly. I enjoyed it, but I didn't feel the deep connection between the two lead characters that I've gotten from other authors, but this is a fair enough volume I could give it two and a half stars. The cliffhanger ending that introduces the next book was a bit dark for me, and had a bit too much of a rapey kind of feel even though the attempt was made to walk that back, the fact that it is repeatedly mentioned that the group regularly does that sort of thing . . . I just don't know if I can head that direction. If an author really feels the need to bring up rape as a plot device, I can't tolerate the male lead doing that to start a romance; I cannot stand a lot of detail (I'd rather it be mentioned as a past event that occurred but not have it detailed or outlined first-hand, e.g given action detail to); and I REALLY need everyone who perpetrated the sexual assault to suffer horrifically or be eliminated in painful ways for being the filth that would take something without consent that should be freely given, killing the soul in a way that nothing else really does. Just saying there needs to be some serious justice and it needs to be in kind.
Adryan CONSTANTLY talks about how psycho badass he is. Every monologue and every conversation. It got old real quick and actually makes the character look like he's insecure and has to prove how bad he is all the time.
Kayla is a manufactured train wreck. Reality, she's a closet emo and kink. Nothing nefarious there. Her insecurities and moral dilemmas are superficially overblown to, I guess, make the character look like she has some depth?
Adryan is 120 years old, and he’s a vicious leader. He’s a Vampire King and has killed many in his lifetime- he doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. With all the political stuff going on in the paranormal world, he’s been busy. He’s never been able to… um… get it up… until he smells his mate… his human mate… and he can’t wait to consume her 😈😅 and mark her as his 🥵.
Kayla (25) has never been with a man. She’s never felt the need to or the inclination to try being intimate with anyone; plus, she feels repulsed by them. When she goes clubbing with her bff and her cousin, she gets overpowered by this stranger while dancing very sensually. The need and hunger he awakes in her is unreal, and the way he nibbles on her is unlike anything she’s ever felt.
When she tries dating her best friend’s cousin, his JP side comes out, and she no longer controls the way her body reacts to him. He straight up tells her that she can run from him, but he’ll always catch her, and jeeeezus, does he ever 🔥🥵. Annnnnd, he tells her that he’ll enjoy catching her EVERY. TIME. *undies disintegrate*.
OH. MY. GOSH. The chemistry. The connection. The visceral passion and primal need to be together was STEAMY. Their first intense make-out session happened when she was on her “date” with the cousin, and Adryan was very happy to stake his claim 🥵🔥. I mean, no man is gonna stop him from getting him to mark what’s his 💅 and does he ever 😉. There might not be a ton of smexxy scenes, but the ones in here make it COUNT 🥵🔥😅🤤.
Sigh. Adryan is so protective of his mate, I just loved everything he did for her. Annnnnd… I loved the HEA 🥰🥺. Even though there’s otherworldly being drama, Adryan prioritizes Kayla- she’s his most important person❤️❤️❤️

Adryan is such a great character, totally unapologetic of who he is. I hated him in the previous books and found myself ready to crawl for him in this one. He just owns his Alpha-hole attitude.
I love a fated mates story where the attraction is just instant and he’s a goner for his girl and this story nails it. That instant "she's MINE" feeling, he's practically feral for her. The scenes between Adryan and Kayla are scorching from their first meeting. He's so filthy and she can't resist his touches. You will need to fan yourself to cool down.
The Assembly are back making life difficult for the Otherworld and the Scottish Lycans are still in Adryan's territory looking for Odhran's mate. I can't wait for the next book, I really hope The Assembly get what's coming to them.
That final epilogue will drive me insane until the next book and couple.

PS: not sure if I am looking forward to the next book. They seem to get darker and darker.

The characters lacked real depth and I didn't become attached to either of the main two.
Won't be reading more from this series.

Adrian is a psychopath/ sociopath crazy a$$ vampire and he finally found his Coveted one. To say I was excited for his story was definitely an euphemism. I only had seen a couple of teasers and I called it right then that this book would be my favorite and I was so right!
Adrian personality is everything, he’s so funny with the way he talks and what he says.
His dirty talk was SO GOOD and to think he was a virgin vampire 🤭.
Seeing him find his mate and seeing him go through everything he put others through regarding their mates was really eye opening for him. I loved witnessing that change, the fact that him having a mate was opening him up for all kinds of emotions that he hadn’t felt before and it was beautiful and enjoyable to watch unfold.
I really liked Kayla. I appreciated it that she tried to stay strong through all of it and not run from her future. I liked her even more when she denied everything that Adrian was and everything he said but she really wasn’t denying it. Deep down she knew that they were meant to be.
The sexy times were 🔥, 🥵, 🌶 , 💦🌊, 🩸and Adrian dirty talk got me going, he was a hell of a h**ny vampire 🧛♀️!
I got a bit worried because the traitor from the previous book was still among “ the living “ and I honestly don’t understand how didn’t anyone figure out who he was sooner. I knew who he was from the get go so my emotions were running high when I knew s**T was about to hit the fan because of him.
I loved seeing the Lycans from previous books and I enjoyed Banner’s reaction to the fact that his psycho brother-in-law found his mate.
The last chapter of Adrian and Kayla was everything and more. Adrian right then and there really showed his heart to his mate and I felt so satisfied and happy for them.
I feel so sorry for Odhran before but after reading the last chapter I have my heart on my hands but also hopeful because finally after all these years his mate is getting her chance to escape, hopefully 🙏.
I thoroughly enjoyed every inch of this story and I’m excited for Odhran story but also to see more of other couples and Adrian and Kayla.

These two really are made for each other and i must admit this author has some really hot scenes here. Im really looking forward to the next book and have given this one five stars plus
