What wasn’t convincing was the romance, in my opinion. Between Maddy and Jace, there’s first mistrust, then Jace plays the protector, and finally he’s trying to save Maddy from their common enemy. There’s constant pressure or danger. While I can understand some form of attraction, how does it take precedence over all other thoughts at various moments? As if, at the moment of dying a horrible death, all they could think about were the dirty things they wanted to do with each other. Sorry, I don’t buy it.
Also, the imbalance between them bothered me quite a bit. Jace knows things about Maddy’s past that she ignores, and he doesn’t share them, even while they shape his relationship with her. I still enjoyed the few moments they spend together, when they share personal details. They clearly connect on some level.
There was some good passionate sexy times. But also some action and violence, with a good pacing.
Narrators are both talented, but I felt their reading pace didn’t match the tension and energy from the book. They did great with the characters though–all of them. Maddy’s naivety and Jace’s determination are rendered perfectly.

In Ms. Harris' style, the first installment takes off at rocket speed and doesn't let up until you close the book. Black's Bandits is a spin-off of the Hostile Operations Team (H.O.T.) series and one I have been waiting for with great excitement and anticipation.
Sprinkled throughout the H.O.T. Series, Ian Black has shown up at the right time for many of the H.O.T. missions. Colonel John VIPER Mendez, H.O.T. leader, has stated that Black is a mystery and has wondered if he is the enemy, a disavowed C.I.A. agent that isn't disavowed at all, or maybe a mercenary for hire. Regardless, Ian Black has helped Mendez and his men on several occasions, so for now, Mendez will count him as one of the good guys.
The first installment is about Jace Kaiser, who Ian Black saved seven (7) years ago after his parents and sister were taken away by the Russians and killed. For seven (7 ) years, Jace has traveled the world for Black Defense International, doing whatever was required to take the bad guys down and make the world a little better place to live. Jace has no intention of ever settling down, He knows Russia has a target on his back and anyone that he cared for would become a target too. That was until he met Dr. Madeline Cole.
Jace's assignment was to take out an assassin, Calypso, and take her to H.Q. The mission didn't go as planned. Instead of taking Calypso, he kidnapped Dr. Madeline Cole. When it became clear that Madeline (Maddy) was targeted for elimination, Jace pledges to protect her with his life. As time continues, they grow closer, and Jace must pull away, for Maddy's own good. He will walk away as soon as Maddy is safe. He can't allow her to be on the run from the Russians too.
There are twists and turns in any good book, but I didn't see one coming for Jace. Someone from his past shows up that not only surprises Jace but the entire team. Will Jace be able to walk away, will Maddy allow him to walk. Find out and start reading one of the best authors for military romance, mystery, covert thrillers you can find.

We have always been intrigued and a little obsessed with Ian Black. So to finally see and hear more about him and his team in action is drool worthy.
Jace Kaiser is a mystery that needs to be unravelled, and what better way when a case of mistaken identity leads him to one Maddy Cole who he kidnaps thinking she's a lethal assassin, and also a temptress totally jolting his equilibrium.
Maddy is Ying to his yang. She's sweet but has a strength to her character somewhat. The chemistry throughout the book is so hot you can feel the zap.
So much intrigue, action, comedy and heartache too.
It's nice to see more of Ian Black and hear his thoughts and seeing how this story ends gives you a positive outlook on what the future holds with Ian, Colt, Angie and the elusive Natasha..
Can't wait for more.

I expected a really explosive story and this wasn't it.
It has a great start but then slowly goes to a simmer which is kept on until the end.
It features Jace Kaiser, one of Blacks men and an art appraiser Dr Madeline Cole, as the story goes on she's targeted by a female assassin and he needs to keep her safe.
As always with this author, it's well written, characterization is good and even though, in my eyes, it's not the start to the series I expected, it's still a good book.
