Rose Valrois has escaped the sorcerous red priests and returned to the castle beside the enchanted Darkwood, but her troubles are far from over. Her stepsister, Princess Neeve, is more secretive than ever, and as war threatens, Rose's mother pushes her toward a political alliance, even as her heart is torn between a heroic prince and the Dark Elf guardian of the forest.
But when Neeve makes a terrible choice, the fate of two kingdoms hangs in the balance. Rose must risk her freedom, her world, and even her heart to save her sister. Can she bear to make that sacrifice? Does she even have the choice?
Book two in the Darkwood Trilogy from USA Today bestselling author Anthea Sharp takes the reader into a lush fairytale blending elements of Snow White and Rose Red with romance, magic, and dangerous secrets that will change the fate of worlds.

Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
My stepsister met us at the front steps.
"You look terrible," she said to me as I stepped from the coach.
I bared my teeth at her, secretly amused that her direct manner hadn't changed. "I'm glad to see you again, too."
Her mouth twitched, though with laughter or scorn, I couldn't quite tell. Neeve had always been skilled at hiding her emotions.

Overall the story is good and flows well. I liked it much better than the first book. The world building is great and I’m glad to have experienced the journey into Elfham. I look forward to the next book.
The writing is very poetically descriptive of the wonders of both the earthly realm and Elfhame, the Dark Elf realm, with many colorful or evocative similes and metaphors. The descriptions of food made me hungry. For these reasons, the reading pace should be slow enough to fully appreciate the imagery so skilfully crafted.
I loved that Rose is the heroine. She isn't perfect and has her own issues but she will do anything for those she loves. Neeve and her relationship may have been rocky but they care so deeply for each other. I just can't get over how much I love this world and these characters and how badly I want book 3 now! Love these books.
