Could have been better.

Meh... I would have given it 4 stars if not for the hospital scene. There it lost all integrity.
First: what was in the injection the nurse gave him? We were meant to think it was arranged by Hugs to kill him or incapacitate him, making it easier for Hugs, but then... nothing. Second: who in their right mind would let him have a loaded weapon, in a hospital room, on his bedside table no less, when he is assumed to be under the influence of opiates? Weak, and no dramatic impact because it is so unrealistic.
Could have been a good movie.

Good cop mystery that keeps you guessing right up to the last few minutes

SPOILER ALERT. I would have given this movie 5 Stars if not for the hospital scene towards the end. You don't leave a gun with a patient who is on an IV. But most important, I don't watch a movie for "realism." I watch it to be entertained. I like a happy ending. There were so many "unrealistic" things in the movie, the writer/director could have done one more and given the viewer a happy ending. Great acting. Great cinematography, just a bad ending.

Good action movie

Granted, it was from 1989, but even for then it seemed dated. A male rookie cop who's still a virgin and is a devoted Catholic? There was a really good ending to the movie that saved it from being extremely predictable. A good action movie if you don't over-judge some of the slower scenes.

TWO WORDS: GINA GERSHON
Verified purchase
Gina Gershon is enough of a reason to watch this movie.

The rest of the movie acting is mediocre at best and the Paramour Cop Stiff gives plywood a run for the title of "MOST WOODEN"

GINA AS A HOT, HOT COP
Verified purchase
Good cop\ba d cop is a hollywood staple, the only thing that raises this film, even a little bit, is the performance by the always wonderful and sexy GINA GERSHON.GINA, in this one MAY be a BAD cop and a KILLER. If this film had a better script, direction, and secondary cast it might come close to a film noir classic. But once again THE GREAT GINA is saddled with second rate back-up.GINA I love you,but the film is only so,so.

I don't think a lot of people remember or even know about this movie with Gina Gershon. I feel it should have been more widely known, its a great movie with an awesome actor/ or actress, whichever they liked to be called now.

Surprisingly good ! I has a previous attempt to watch this and it started so slow I stopped. I misjudged the potential of the movie too quickly. I was finally realized I'd never seen a bad movie with Gina Gershon. Getting through the first part of the film that introduced all the characters is typically a bit slow in all movies. It then picked up quickly. It turned out to be an interesting thriller and told a complex story that turned out to have some nice interesting twists and turns. Every time I thought I'd figured it out ... I didn't and I'm usually good at that. Lots of coincidences that all sort of came together & were explained eventually. The acting was right on. Gina & Ron Silver had some interesting chemistry, though that wasn't addressed as a plot point or have much relevance. Gina is great to watch in whatever she is in and doesn't seem to have aged! That's a secret I'd like to know!
