This is the story of one families struggles with a family member with aids who is in his last days. The Father died of cancer years ago and left many issues with the grandmother, mom, son and daughter. We get a snapshot of their losses and struggles here. They all come together to care for the young man at his grannies home near where the Blackwater lightship used to be. He has two really good friends come to help and there is laughter with them. If you are squeamish about aids, gay people or homosexuality you might pass. However this is not a story about alternative lifestyles but about putting your differences aside to love a family member when they need it. There are flashbacks from the sisters perspective. Obviously she struggled with the loss of her beloved dad. Honestly I quit watching. I was tired and just wanted to move on. I would not say this is a depressing movie. I recognized the young man playing the dying character from a stint on TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL. The characters are rich and of course Angela Lansbury plays a good part. The daughter took the movie as far as I am concerned. I may go back and finish later. A good study for a Psychology student. A good movie to show how people should treat the sick. :)

Another Wonderful Story With Angela Lansbury
Verified purchase
Anything Angela Lansbury is in just has to be good. This video is no exception. The trio of Dianne Wiest, Gina McKee and Angela Lansbury, along with a very compelling and deeply moving script, make this movie something you'll think about for a long time after the movie ends. It's a movie about reconciliation and the strength and depth of love within families. It's the story of past tragedy and pain being turned into acceptance and the triumph of love over anger and heartbreak.

The product arrived quickly and as described.

I thoroughly enjoy Mr. Toibin's writing, and Angela Lansbury is a favorite actor.
A moving family story set on the beautiful coast of County Wexford, Ireland.
Happy to have this in my DVD library.

Professional Acting
Verified purchase
Wonderful character acting by the three main female characters. Fairly straightforward plot outline allows the acting to dominate the experience. Certainly a deeper movie than the usual Hallmark genre. The viewing experience was diminished somewhat by repeated reminders popping up that the movie is copyrighted and that this copy was a review copy, or some such language. I don't appreciate that on a DVD that I own.
