Blind Bake is such a fun read. I loved this one so much. If you love a good mystery read, then you need to check this new series out and fall in love with Maddie and her aunt. I could not get enough of this one. Maddie is doing everything she can to take care of her elderly aunt, juggle multiple jobs and survive in her old hometown. She is strong and proves to the new detective in town that she can take care of herself and help solve crime along the way. Noah is new in town and looking forward to a small town with less crime. Noah has his demons he is running from when it comes to his last detective job. He has trust issues and just wants to get to the bottom of the who, what and why of the murder that happens. I love the chemistry of Noah and Maddie. You get those little feels along the way as they break down their walls some. There are plenty of cute moments to go with this crime solving read. I love the big mystery that has yet to be solved and really look forward to Maddie getting the answers she wants and needs when it comes to what happen to her mother. If you have a lot on your to do list don't start this book because the list will be forgotten because you won't want to put the book down.

The story line flows so well. There is enough mystery that while you might think you have it figured out, the depth and characters have you guessing until the end. There is budding romance, friendship, conflict, fear, anger, sympathy and enough of all of it to make you hungry for the next book.

Amazing job as always Denise and love the characters. I'm in awe of how you have so many phenomenal stories, characters and series. I not only recommend this book but all of Denise's books. You seriously could pick anyone of them and not be disappointed. I read about 130-150 books per year and she is by far one of my favorite authors (and not just because she is a fellow Missouri girl ;)

When protagonist Maddie is the main person of interest in a murder at “the Bottoms,” she has to figure out what happened, not just to clear her own name, but to help others that have gotten mixed up in the situation. But it after accidentally hitting the lead detective in the face (how’s that for a meet cute!?!?).

Pleasantly atypical of DGS’s other mysteries, you see the perspective of both the male and female leads. It’s great to see the conflicts going on inside both their heads. It adds complexity to both the investigation (the “by the book” investigation Noah is forced to lead and the less restrictive “I have to find out” one Maddie is forced into to clear her name) and the “will they or won’t they” potential romance that has major roadblocks from baggage both leads carry (and recognize).

The characters are real and relatable, and for a murder mystery plot line, the story is believable (with real laugh out loud AND cheerable moments!).

I read as much as I could and avoided the real world and my kiddos while reading.
The first novel in this series is a addicting, heart pumping, and emotional read.
I absolutely love Maddie and Noah. I really enjoyed reading the duo POV. It was nice to see what each of them was thinking.
I feel like the book has a little bit of everything.
Great banter, complicated past, humor, slow burn romance, great secondary characters, and a good small town mystery or two.
The story has more than enough to keep the reader enthralled, and I cannot wait for the next book. Be ready to meet the Butcheress of Cockamamie.

A series of misfortunate events puts Maddie smack in the middle of a murder investigation. Enter Detective Noah Langley with a lot of his own baggage and things get tense between the two of them as they fight their attraction to each other. There are some comical scenes but overall this is a great mystery with a few surprises at the end. Don’t cheat and read the end first!

Cozy mysteries are one of my favorite genres but too often they are trite or overly fluffy. Then Denise Grover Swank stepped into the genre and raised the bar to a whole new level. Imagine, if you will, all of the character strength, story intrigue, twists and turns, and solid storyline that every DGS book features, but in cozy mystery format. Blind Bake is such a delightful mix of strength, mystery, and warm personal connections. The main characters are good, honest people and I feel personally invested in their lives and happiness. Although I finished the book mere minutes ago I already miss the characters, and somehow the bonus epilogue has me even more eager for book 2.

I enjoyed the development of both Maddie and Noah's characters. I think I also learned some defensive skill from Noahs demonstration to the ladies club. Looking forward to book 2 already. While you are waiting for book 2 be sure and read some of Denise's other series you won't be disappointed
