About the author

Becca Andre lives in southern Ohio with her husband, two children, and an elderly Jack Russell Terrier. A love of science and math (yes, she’s weird like that), led to a career as a chemist where she blows things up far more infrequently than you’d expect. Other interests include: chocolate, hard rock, and slaying things on the Xbox. She also finds writing about herself in third person a bit strange.

I really loved the first book in this series. This one starts off quite well. Addie is trying to figure out how to move forward with her life knowing what she does of her past and with all her friends hating her. Without resources, she winds up having to make some questionable bargains to get access to a lab and everything she needs to try to redeem alchemy in the eyes of the world.
Of course, because it wouldn't be much of a story otherwise, she and her former friends are forced to work together due to some murders. Things start slipping a little here as she tried to turn lying to everyone into a high art form. However, I understood what drove her and, at the beginning at least, was able to shrug and keep moving. But the lies keep getting bigger and bigger.
In the meantime there are murders and random attacks by James' brothers for reasons I couldn't quite figure out. The scenes with them never felt natural to me, but rather felt shoehorned in for some reason that I couldn't figure out. The story had enough going on already without throwing them in as well.
Then, at about 60% in, Addie makes another series of poor decisions that lead to her being captured by James' brothers. And I found I just didn't care to find out what happened. While she had an excuse for some poor decisions, she'd just crossed the line into too many to excuse anymore and I just couldn't find any interest in finding out what happened to her. Which is sad given how much I enjoyed book 1.
Master Alchemist Addie is working to atone her past misdeeds and promote the facts that alchemy can be used for good purposes. She and her lab assistant Ian are moving into a new lab after Addie’s previous lab was destroyed by an evil necromancer. This book reveals more character development as Addie has had some of her memories return. Also, Ian is a necromancer/alchemist that she gave the Final Formula to – to save hers and Rowen’s lives. Blood alchemy is feared by the magic world. Between the two, Addie’s burn salve is being made and is working to help the hospital’s burn patients.
When New Magic people are shot and end up dying, with Addie’s special hunting bullets more danger ensues. When it is discovered that an evil necromancer and James’s Hunter brothers are working together to try to end New Magic, Addie wants to stay in the investigation. Suddenly Addie’s burn salve stops working. Another mystery for her to solve; one with potentially devastating results for Addie’s reputation. Again, this series kept me reading. Truly well worth buying.
This book, just like the first, is full of action. It is fast paced and well written. The words just flow off the page, in such a way, you feel like a spectator wi thin the book. The characters are believable and well thought out. Looking forward to reading the next. It's not often you find a good book about alchemy and magic that doesn't involve witches. If you're looking for a different kind of book series, I would recommend this one.

On the grounds of this, i bought my kindle copy of The Blood Alchemist as soon as i heard it had been released, regardless of the fact that was at a time in the morning when only birds are awake.
I started reading... And couldn't stop
This is a book that grabs you from the start and doesn't let go.
The characters take on new levels of realty, the plot is more wicked and winding and nothing is quite what it seems the twisting emotions of a lost love and a main character trying to undo her past mistakes - mistakes she hardly remembers - makes this story so much more than just a murder mystery with magic and explosions.
While I struggled to get a grip on the geography of the locations in the book, I suspect this has more to do with my lack of knowledge rather than any failing on the author's part. This did not detract from my enjoyment at all. It simply left me making up imagery images that i am sure were not what the author intended.
All in all though, this has got to be one of my favorite books and cannot wait for next installment in this thrilling series.
