Heading south for the Winter, after a scuffle with the law in Colorado over a little card playing issue, Yakima Henry stops in the small town of Horsetooth, Arizona to grab some grub and cut the trail dust, he ends up killing the saloon owner. The owner was a dirty, overweight fellow that figured that Yakima could not read and pushed him regarding him being a half-breed. He corrected the owner’s perception about Yakima entering and having a drink, but then a couple of cowpokes egged him on, and the owner pulled a shotgun to put an end to Yakima and most likely the cowpokes. Yakima beat him to the trigger pull and the owner fell dead. Just a moment later he heard a woman’s voice from the balcony wanting to know what all the shooting was about. Of course, the drunk cowpokes, told her that Yakima had just killed her husband, and she wanted to know what they were going to do about it?
Now at this point, Yakima figured that he had a problem. He had faced odds before but never seven to one. There were two cowpokes, playing cards, three drummers, and an albino in the uniform of the cavalry, with a beefy broad-faced man sitting next to him. He knew that if the woman (wife of the owner) had been ugly, there would have been no problem. But this woman was the most beautiful woman he had seen in a long time. Long black hair, curves where they should be, and when she bent over the railing everyone could see the deep valley between her breasts. Just that alone would drive any man to do what she wanted. To make a quick shoot-out even quicker, Yakima took care of the cowpokes, two of the drummers and the other three wanted nothing to do with Yakima after they saw him take down the others. Well, the Marshal shows up and the wife, Paloma, is sitting with Yakima, drinking his tequila and she tells him that Yakima had saved her from the others after they killed her husband. His jaw dropped!!!
Join Yakima as he accepts Paloma’s invitation to spend the night, but when the sun starts to rise, she slips out and rides away. What does this woman want? Find out as he follows her for the shocking surprise…
What did I like? Dang if that man doesn’t have do anything and trouble dumps on him. Falling for the wife of the man you just killed is bad enough and he knows that he should saddle up and ride on but, the itch in the back of his head tells him to follow and find out what she is up to. Wow, what a surprise!!!
What will you like? Intense, mysterious, outlaws, devious wanton woman, stolen Army payroll money, and a ton of bad luck for Yakima. He knows that the right thing to do is walk away but when a woman like Paloma starts twisting your guts, it would be hard for any man. Peter takes us for a ride that seems to last forever with the most exquisite descriptions, details that make the whole thing come alive, and an extreme cast of characters to make the action happen. Don’t miss Peter Brandvold’s next book in the Yakima Henry series, book twelve, “Blood of the Horsetooth Widow” is available NOW!!
