I really love this series. A very intimate look at some of the difficulties a newly turned vampire has to deal with, Casting a new perspective to these super natural stories. I also love the reference to the familiar tribunal and the ancient ones out there - adding authenticity to the story. The Jackyleon series is one of my favorites. Well done Benet. :)

This book is a good mix of vampire lore, vampire politics, intrigue, and danger. Oh, and don’t forget about the blood 🩸. It’s also not easy to train a new vampire because they are just so full of themselves. It seems the smell, or even just the thought of blood and the sound of a heart beating drives them to frenzy. But it seems some vampires are doing just that. They have to be stopped.

I really enjoyed the first one because I felt Everly started out differently from the others in the Tribunal series. I wasn't sure how she would continue the story but I really enjoyed where she went with it. I like that she is tech savvy and would like to see that explored further. I like the take that they are "vampire cops" and I think it will be interesting to see them work more cases.

If there is one thing that kind of got me was that she sometimes were a little too confident. Calling up the pack leader sharing her theory without running it by Alexius first was a bit off but I guess with what followed it was necessary for the story. I hope that in future cases she will be able to use her technical skills more since she this time around mostly it felt like she looked through phones and today one doesn't need to be all that tech savvy to do. I love techy stuff and have my own custom computer with several baggies of screws so this might not be something most people care about.

I like that she is getting back to be quick with her words considering what she had to deal with in the first one.

To sum up, great story and a great continuation. Can't wait for the next one and what they will be doing next. And I am so beyond grateful that the books so far in the Tribunal series, as far as I can remember, do not end with cliffhangers. You get the resolution of the main conflict of the book but the overarching problem you still know is there and will continue in the next one.

It's always good to go looking for new books while you wait for your favorite author to come out with another in that series. Very glad I did! I like reading about vampires, so when I went looking for a new book, this popped up. Sounded good, am glad I decided to read it.
I like the main characters, Everly is a strong female character- not really a mouse - and Alexius is the strong, brooding protector. I wasn't sure I liked Isaiah in the first book but his sense of humor is very likable in this one. Do you think he knows about Alexius and Everly?
The mystery around Jacob death and who might be after Alexius is interesting! I can't wait for book 3!

This book picks up shortly after the first leaves off, so if you haven’t read the first- go do that! There was a lot of explaining in the first part of the book, which I found helpful, having only briefly glimpsed the Vampires in other books set in this world. It is interesting seeing characters I am familiar with from a new perspective. I like that Everly is smart and capable and a bit of a computer nerd. Other heroines in this universe nail the kick-butt-take-names vibe and I thoroughly enjoy it, but it is cool to have a different kind of female protagonist. I like that she is introverted, wants to remain in the background, and uses her brains and computer skills. I find her most relatable, personally, as I too hate exercise and frequently feel out of place.

While the build up was a little slower in this book, I really like the feel of it- sort of crime procedural rather than kick-butt action. I think she and Alexius make a good team, his experience and her technological skills are a good match. Without getting into spoiler territory, I think the plot was solid and made sense. There were no holes in logic that I saw, and it was a solid case for Everly to start with.

Overall, this was a great second book to the series and a solid story. I cannot wait to see more!

Everly needs to adjust to her new life as a vampire, and an orphan on top of that. Not having a sire makes her a powerful ally or enemy. However, Alexius won't let Everly go out in the world before she's ready, but when a murder drives Alexius and Everly to Alaska, they both need to learn together what their limits are because someone is playing with them and they need to find out who before the dark age of vampires come back.

It's a slow burn, and I can't wait to see how the relationship between Alexius and Everly develops.
