Yakima Henry is holed up in an old prospector’s cabin in the wilds of south-central Arizona, between Tucson and Lordsburg, New Mexico. He’s decided to cool his heels until fall, prospecting for gold and hoping for a little color with which to fund a trek into Mexico.
The half-breed wanderer just can’t shake Faith’s memory, however. Not even with the help of the firewater and pretty whore in the Busted Flush Saloon in the little nowhere town of Apache Springs. The firewater causes the crazed, jade-eyed half-breed to go into a rage and bust up the saloon and half the men in the town until he’s finally subdued and carted over to the local jail – locked up by his friend, Town Marshal Lon Taggart.

Yakima’s love for Faith has not slipped one bit, trying to ease the pain some he heads down to southern Arizona to do a little prospecting. He was eager for some color that might pay for a journey down into Mexico. However, a trip to town to pick up some supplies and hoping he could ease some of the pain with a little firewater, well really A LOT of firewater, but instead he went viral destroying the Busted Flush Saloon and ending up in jail, bruised and hungover. The Town Marshall, Lon Taggart was someone that Yakima considered a friend, or as close as he could come to one.
The next morning as he sits holding his head, Lon’s wife, Julia comes in trying to convince Lon that he should lock up and come to church with her. While Yakima sat there he heard the sound of three horses riding in and stopping in front of the Marshall’s office. He was not sure why, but he had that cold finger of danger dance up his spine. Maybe it was the way the men were talking as they swung down from their horses, he thought to mention it to Lon but before he could give it more thought the three men came in looking mean and tough. The next thing he knew the big man told the Marshall that he had a message from Rebel Wilkes, and his gun roared striking Lon with four shots to his body causing Julia to scream and then fall to the floor on his knees. She rushed to him, but the big man grabbed her and told her to forget him as he was a dead man. Taking Julia with them, the three left intending to destroy the town. Now the story begins.
Join Yakima as he tries to help his friend and his wife…
What did I like? Yakima Henry is the kind of man that just can not help himself, especially when it comes to two things, his love for Faith, and the bottle he uses to forget her with. You can certainly feel for him, knowing how that pain can eat into a being. On the other hand, no matter what happens the man just can’t stop himself from helping others. He never gives himself any thought to the danger that he could be in, he just plows in and does what needs to be done.
What will you like? Some major surprises are waiting for you in this one! The action is tremendous, the characters are way past remarkable, and the storyline will capture your heart. Peter is a meticulous writer, and his storylines are wonderful to read, many times you can identify with the situation and yearn to help, but of course, this is just a storyline written by a man that loves to write and share his dreams with us. Another excellent book that will enhance your western library. Check out Peter Brandvold’s next adventure in the Yakima Henry series, “Bloody Arizona” is available NOW!!!
