The stories are grouped by settings, which include the Moon, Mars, and the space around the outer planets.
I very much enjoyed reading "Blue Collar Space" because it illustrated that bold exploration and adventure depends on people behind the scenes, supporting the "big heros", but in their own way, all of the support staff can be and often are just as heroic.
This book clearly is an anthology of Shoemaker’s short stories. For me, his writing constitutes purer sci fi with clear messages, some humor, and characters that can be likeable and stories that you want to follow sincerely.
I would recommend reading The Last Dance before others by Shoemaker but no problem if you choose a different order. One of the stories in Blue Collar Space is taken wholly from The Last Dance but, for me, it was worth re-reading.
I would recommend Shoemaker stories to people that like sci fi in the nature of Robert Heinlein.
