Bonanza was slightly before my time but like most TV shows during the late 50s, 60s, and 70s what I noticed as I got older was the family value that Bonanza presented to its audience. I hope one day Amazon will added the rest of seasons so that I can kick back and enjoy the good old days.

Bonanza Season 1 - Simply stunning in HD on Amazon Prime - A must for any fan ...
Verified purchase
Classic Bonanza! First season; among the best episodes. The Amazon Prime stream of these shows is in beautiful, clean, HD (at least via Fire TV). If you have not seen early Bonanza episodes or if it has been a long time since you have seen them, I highly recommend checking them out on Amazon Prime. IMO, the first 5 or 6 seasons (with Adam) are among the best. Later ones are still good but the early ones can't be beat. The story lines are really good with a moral to the story. A timeless family friendly show. The scenery, cinematography and overall feel of the show is really nice. Bonanza was always shot in color and whatever restoration was performed on these episodes was well done. I last saw some of these episodes when I recorded them on VHS many, many years ago. What a difference to relive these in HD. I highly recommend these shows for any Bonanza fan or anyone wondering if the show is worth watching. A++++++

Bonanza- memories of a golden time
Verified purchase
I love Bonanza! It's my favorite western tv show of all time. Watching it now brings back such golden memories of the whole family including my two brothers- one of whom died of cancer at 21 years of age)mom & dad all sitting or laying around the living room watching Ben & his 3 sons Adam, Hoss & Little Joe & don't forget Hop Sing on a Sunday night & so enjoying the honesty, generosity & honor that the Cartwright family projected & practiced plus the gorgeous Ponderosa ranch scenery . If I could go back in time for just one more Bonanza evening with my family back in the 60's including my late older brother & best friend from those young days I would jump at the chance! Please Amazon add many more seasons to your Bonanza listing as I can't possibly be the only person who still loves this all time great classic old show!!

Bonanza - A Bonanza Of 50's Television
Verified purchase
I grew up in the 50's in a one TV household where Mom and Dad's choices ruled. "Bonanza" was one of the most popular shows of its time, but not in our house. I guess I get a small measure of satisfaction from the fact that I can catch up on these great old shows, but Mom and Dad's old shows are nowhere to be found. "Bonanza" is a fun show to watch - much drama, some comedy and always wholesome. I'm no prude, but it is fun to draw the line and shout "No More" to cussing, excessive sexual content and plots so intricate you need a PHD to follow them. I have had Attention Deficit Disorder all my life and have always paid attention to other things while watching TV - newspaper articles, crossword puzzles, iPad games. It's fun to watch something with my "divided attention" to paraphrase my old school teachers. The plots are simple enough to follow while I try to fill in 54-Across or read the latest OpEd about Donald Trump. The absence of commercials is a big plus. If you like the old Adult Western genre and some adventure and comedy, I do recommend this show. The whole season is currently available so you can watch from the first episode and learn (again) that Adam, Hoss and Little Joe had different mothers. This was not the case when I signed on to Prime so thanks, Amazon for the "bonus" episodes.

Old show wears well

Who would have thought when I sat in front of the TV every week to watch Bonanza, and when my friends were arguing about which of the brothers we liked the best, that one day I would be binge-watching it over the internet. {Pause while culture shock sinks in.)

Funny, but it's pretty much what I remember. Adam is still a prig. Joe is still cute (which has a different meaning now that I'm not in elementary school), and Hoss carries the show. It's still funny and corny and good-hearted. Surprise: the music is well done and used effectively.

And if you get tired of dark, solemn, weary, dystopian dramas, you can travel back in time to Carson City, where owning a ranch made you Somebody and life was full of optimism built around honor.

How Did I Not Know About This Show?
Verified purchase
I started watching this show because my husband recommended it. All of my favorite television shows are older and my absolute favorite is Little House on the Prairie. Knowing my television preferences, my hubby was shocked to find out I had never watched Bonanza before. We put on the first episode and it was okay. Not the greatest thing I ever watched, but I liked it enough to keep putting it on for him to watch it. It took about 6 episodes and I was hooked. Now I put it on just because I want to watch it.

I love that they intertwine historical events into the show and explain interesting things. I don't know if any of it is accurate at all, but it's still fun. I especially liked meeting Mark Twain.

The entire cast is great and I think it was one of the better made shows I have seen from this era. I wish I had found it a long time ago.

All opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own. I have shared my personal experience with this product and cannot guarantee that you will have the same experience with the product that I had, nor can I promise that we will share the same opinion of the product.

Long-time Favorite!
Verified purchase
One of my old favorites. I have been watching Bonanza for so many years. I have always loved how they began. I love that the Bonanza episodes were in color. The Cartwrights were always a wonderful show to watch, as they will always be special to me...one of my long-time favorites. I have some episodes of Bonanza on a couple of DVDs, but I am missing many other episodes. Watching this series on Amazon Prime Videos is a great benefit to see the ones I have missed. Bonanza Season 1 deserves a five star rating in my opinion.

Watch, Rinse, Repeat! :)
Verified purchase
I really like the old shows and this one doesn't disappoint. However the writing in season 1 tends to be repetitive in that they continue to have these constant love interests for the characters. It's like, "Hey Little Joe, you've been in love with 2 older women, an Indian girl, 2 saloon girls and your dad's love interest too and it's only episode 15. Slow down boy!"
Beyond that I like the overall feel of the show and watching it build from the beginning is pretty cool.
