“I am recommending The Book of Awesome Women by Becca Anderson. This is another awe-inspiring book about women from all different walks of life who have made a positive difference in the world. There are women like Elizabeth Blackwell who were the first in their field; women like Eslanda Goode Robeson who fought for civil rights; women like Lucretia Mott who fought for women's rights and so many others. This intensive book includes scientists, artists, writers, and women from many other professions and even a few young girls like Anne Frank and Malala Yousafzai. There are way too many amazing women covered in this book to mention them all. However, each one of them deserves to be remembered and appreciated. This book will definitely inspire you and remind you that despite all obstacles it is always possible to do some good in the world and that it is not just history but herstory too.” ―Says Me, Says Mom
"Brava to all these brave women! Women have been left out of history for far too long. There is much to be learned from these women who paved the way for all of us through courage, daring and smarts." ―Ntozake Shange, author of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enough
"This book is an antidote to the erasure of women from our history. These bold and colorful portraits reveal women who dared to pursue their dreams. In that pursuit, they themselves become the raw material, the ideal matrix for other women's dreams." ―Vicki Leon, author of Uppity Women of Ancient Times
“These women kick ass and should be household names. Now they can be; read this book and tell everyone you know that women who helped win World War II, wrote the computer code that launched humans into space and so much more. The future is female!” ―Reeda Josephs, author of Girlfriends Forever; We've Got Each Other's Back
"This non-fiction book by Becca Anderson would make an excellent reference book and is also, at the same time extremely readable. It was fun to go through and learn about famous women, who are presented in a way that kept me reading and wanting to learn more. The title, cleverly, says it all. The chapters are divided into women who broke boundaries of race, gender and personal obstacles to be overcome; those who fought for freedom from the earliest days to the twenty-first century; Sheroes some of whom were my personal heroes as a young girl and as an adult; and those females who dared to be the first to do whatever needed to be done." ―PowerfulReadingWomen.com
"Reading this book filled me with happiness and I just felt so amazed by what the women within this book have accomplished. While I recognized a number them in certain sections I was just so wowed by the intense level of detail provided by Anderson throughout. It is impossible to pick a favorite chapter as each was so informative and provided me with so much new knowledge. This read is absolutely a must for anyone interested in history or even just looking to expand their knowledge in a meaningful way. Beyond her detailed work throughout the book Anderson provides a bibliography for those interested in doing additional research. She also includes a card you can submit at the end of the book to nominate women you think deserve to be recognized as awesome. I thought this was a wonderful idea and hope she receives a number of submissions. The Book of Awesome Women shares stories and triumphs that are not often mentioned in mainstream history and is something you absolutely need to check out." ―Nerdy Girl Express

I bought this book for my teenager and after reading it myself, I decided it was too banal for a teenager. I give it one star for introducing me to a couple of news-to-me historic figures including the Night Witches, Nazi-fighting Soviet pilots.
An entertaining and fascinating exploration of dynamic, adventurous and creative women throughout the world.
