In this book she manages to take a much-hated character from previous books and gives him honor and a dignity the reader never would have suspected. All I can say is READ THIS SERIES!!! This is one author who never disappoints; she always gives you an excellent read, with characters you you will both cheer and curse, as well as tear up for at times. Best Author Ever!!!

I have been a fan of the League series for over 10 years; I am so excited that Sherrilyn Kenyon has really decided to give this series more priority than in previous years. This book is kind of a follow-up to the previous release in this series, Born of Defiance, and follows the parents of Talyn Batur (the hero in the previous book). I loved Galene and Fain together. I’ll just say – the scene where they see each other for the first time after a number of years is one of my favorite book scenes of all time! I dropped the book and laughed out loud! Galene is a great character with tons of personality, just like her son Talyn and Fain just breaks my heart, I love him! I really enjoyed being able to follow this story and family over the two-book arc – so many things happen!

We get all – and I do mean ALL – of our previous series favorites in this book. Literally everyone and their families make an appearance. Though the series is difficult to follow, because the cast of characters is so large and there are so many worlds and species to keep track of, I have found that I will continue to love it anyway. The individual stories themselves are strong enough that the fact that I often am lost in the names, and alliances and references, it doesn’t take away from the joy of the current story. Unless you’re mind is an information vault, it will be hard to follow this series without asking yourself, “Who was that again?” “Whose kid is that?” “Why do I remember something about this character in the past?” But if you’re a fan of great character development, intense drama, and truly intriguing story lines, you will still love this series.

I do have one complaint about the book and it contains a spoiler, so you have been warned! I truly dislike how she is rewriting Jullien’s character. While taking a villain and reforming him into a likable character is not new for Kenyon, I don’t buy the way this is being done. Kenyon is completely changing the history of the series, but the way she just threw this in the book seemed really random. It came out of nowhere and we’re all just expected to agree that this is a thing…I dunno, I’m not sold. Also, geez, the way Kenyon played with death in this book was a little exhausting. However, that will not prevent me from following every book in this series. The story line is open and I’m excited to see where the next books go!

If you are a follower of Ms. Kenyon, you will notice that her novels have the same theme at all times: romance, action, oppression, tyranny, and abuse, but I don’t get tired of reading them. I admire how she executes and structures the development of her stories. She is cunning in twisting the plot and redeeming someone who has been the most hated character in any of her novels, and of course, she does the transition smoothly until that person grows on you. In addition, she always makes me fall in love with her characters, laugh, cry, and throw some punches in the air for feeling victorious once in a while. This installment contains not only the story of Fain and Galene, but it also includes the rising of Nemesis since Nykyrian is dead. The war has begun between the Sentella and League—which is dared by Darling Cruel awhile back, and it does not end on this installment. I cannot wait for the next book. Sadly, I have to wait a year for it. 

I have been provided with a review copy of Born of Betrayal from the publisher St. Martin’s Press for an impartial review. Born of Betrayal is the tenth book in The League: Nemesis Rising Series and it picks up around where the eighth installment Born of Fury left off. In this book we get to see Fain Hauk find his way to his happily ever after. This book was awesome it had me gasping left and right and thinking that possibly couldn’t have just happened. I really enjoyed this book not only do you get to see more of Galene Batur and her son Talyn that we previously met in Born of Defiance but you start to understand the whole picture better surrounding all three of them and what actually went on between them and why things are the way they are. What another great installment by this author and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

I was excited to get Fain's story, but I got frustrated in several ways. This book felt like a second book in a trilogy: just story getting you from point A to point C. You have to have read the series to understand who are the NUMEROUS characters that span the entire story line. I'm a big fan of this series but found it hard to remember and keep straight who was who. Finally, it felt like the story just suddenly stopped. I was shocked when I turned the page and it was the author's bio and not more story. Again, I love this series, but this was not one of the best.

A good installment with a few annoyances

Love the League books, but three notes struck me as "off" in this installment. 1) Does everyone really need to call each other Precious, Sweetie, Sxy Baby at every opportunity? I can take a bit of it, it had a purpose in Talyn's book, and we've seen it throughout but this was over the top.
Potential spoiler:
2) Seriously did not enjoy the Styxx- like treatment of a former Super Bad Guy. Yeah, he's just misunderstood and he was always a victim and now we all love him. Gah. Can't a bad guy stay bad? 3) The ensemble scenes didn't add much other than a chance to see favorite characters. While I enjoyed that aspect, it wasn't necessary (especially the repeated panic about loved ones, etc).

All that being said, I still really enjoyed this book and the expansion of the cast of characters in the first generation.

this was a great read, it was fast paced and exciting I was on the edge of my seat reading this even though I felt the romance between fain and galene took a back seat to all the other characters so future book story lines could be set up,although it was great to hear about past and future characters and their families.
overall this story has nonstop fast paced action with a family reunion and a tiny romance thrown in and I was more than slightly disappointed with the small amount of romance romance.

Questions are answered from past episodes and assumptions made about previous characters were blown apart which was good, it also sets up future books and character pairings quite nicely, can't wait for the next one ; )
