I liked the arc of the story. A young "natural" wizard is apprenticed by an older "book"wizard, and learns to grow despite her master. The system of magic was new to my reading, and it held together quite well. Magic has to be prepared in advance of it's use, and prepared properly. There were no amazing young wizards suddenly doing things no one else had done. The wizards had to really work for their living. What a delightful change. It was worth reading the book just for that.
I also finished a second book in their universe, Anoria, who encounters the older, wiser Cordelia. (Enjoyed that one also.) I am looking forward to more books in this universe.
Was it a "great" book that will soar over the fantasy world? No. but it was quite good, both readable and enjoyable. Well done Paula and Gorg.
That being said, it is entertaining enough that I finished it, and I'll surely buy book two.
(4-stars is a rave review from me; I reserve 5 for the very few life-changing books I encounter.)
