The BEST Boss Movie!

I was hesitant to watch this after seeing the overall rating was 3 stars, but I have to say I have not laughed this much in a long time. I mean gut-busting laughter! Not appropriate for small kids but the story line was light (which was to be expected) and I swear Melissa McCarthy did her homework with the "get rich guru". She had all the theatrics that they have at their conventions that you spend 2 arms and both legs for. I thought it was a nice light movie. A 5 Star rating for me. The purpose of movies is that the people we love to see acting portray different characters. This was one of them. I think those that are expecting to see her and not the character may have been disappointed. I wasn't. It was a really fun movie!

Funny, fun and even touching. Worth the watch

I really enjoyed this movie. I had very low expectations going in. I love McCarthy and Bell so I decided to try it out and scroll through the less appealing bits. It wasn't till the credits I realized I hadn't been tempted to scroll once. I did laugh out loud several times. I actually really enjoyed the story. I thought it would be really light on plot. Yes it was predictable but utterly enjoyable. Plus there were a lot of quirky little plot twists and unexpected humor. I really enjoyed the cameo appearances from Kathy Bates, Gayle King, Kristen Schaal and Cecily Strong. Peter Dinklage was awesome as usual. Ellen Anderson who played Rachel, Bell's daughter, was really impressive. Top shelf acting. Overall this movie was a pleasant surprise. Funnier than expected. I LOVED the costume design by Wendy Chuck. It was worth the watch

Humorous but marred by McCarthy’s high turtlenecks
Verified purchase
Throughout the film Melissa McCarthy wears various forms of turtlenecks up to her chin. It almost appears that she has injured her neck and is wearing a neck brace.

She plays an orphan who grows rich as a flashy con-artist who is brought low and imprisoned for insider trading by one of her ex-boyfriends.

The assistant she took advantage of becomes her way back to the top.

As much as I love Melissa McCarthy this film wasn’t that funny.

I did laugh out loud often.

Melissa McCarthy as Michelle Darnell, a titan of industry who is sent to prison for insider trading. After doing her time, Michelle emerge, but not everyone she steamrolled is so quick to forgive and forget. Michelle is forced to move in with former assistant Claire and her young daughter, Rachel. Now at her lowest point, Michelle devises a plan to rebuild her empire. I and others have said that Melissa does the usual stuff and I still feel that way but she has been changing up on her characters and they have been tons of fun. The Boss is no exception, she plays a woman who stepped on everyone to get to the top and now at rock bottom she has to change her tune or does she? She wants a family and could her previous employee and her daughter be that? The entire support cast is superb. From Kristen Bell and Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates to the girls who make the cookies. I got many laughs out of this movie.

Hilarious!

Melissa McCarthy never truly disappoints and I laughed a lot during this movie. Some scene were a bit much when it involved kids but it wasn't to the point that it was vulgar. The scene where the little brownie troops were fighting was absolutely hilarious. Melissa can be serious and she can be funny. Her character evolved and realized that there was more to life than money. The money was taking place of how she was always brought back to the orphanage when families would attempt to adopt her. Kathy Bates plays as her mentor that teaches her to be ruthless and make money. Kirsten Bell is her assistant while she was a millionaire making millions! Then she ends up in prison and once she gets out Melissa's character moves in with Kirsten. It is a storyline older than the times but never gets old when it ends well.

The Boss DVD

A very funny movie about a troubled kid that keeps getting returned to orphanage that grows up to a huge money making lady. She then goes to jail for insider trading and comes out flat broke with no friends. She goes to ex employee for help and gets involved in a girl scout cookie deal and decides to start own brownie business. Her girl scouts are tough killer kids. Her ex employee and her daughter really get close with her and that freaks her out. She tries to go good. She has an ex midget boyfriend who is also out to get her and a bit crazy. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell and Peter Dinkledge are INCREDIBLY FUNNY in this with the girl scouts.

Would not play

The first dvd would not play. I sent it back to Amazon and they sent me another. The second dvd would not play. I did notice with both discs that when I turned it over there was a red color around the hole. I wondered if that could have any significance as to the reason it would not play.

Lighthearted, funny, a little predictable, but still funny and very cute.

It is a little campy and cliche, but it's the legend Melissa Macarthy so it is totally fresh and funny af. Completely worth if and perfect if you are in the mood for a more lighthearted silly comedy.
