Looking forward to what’s next.
Starting with the cons: There aren't many but they can be major for certain types of prohibitive readers:
A) the characters were professional lushes but whatever, people drink during network events, these are adults in the story. Although I can't fathom drinking that much and being in one's right mind for a love scene. Whatever, the two mains seemed like responsible adults, nobody was driving. They were on a ship.
B)I don't like clinical words during love scenes the v word was used once and no I am not talking about virgin. No virgins in this story
C) the heroine is kinda professional and uptight, but she grows on you and not like fungus. I like that she was confident and admitted she's kinda alpha herself. She's super cool and would be a dope, ambitious friend you get advice from, but maybe don't have around your man too much.
D) No male perspective first person female protagonist.
E) Abrupt ending?! For real. I need some CLIFFHANGER DISCLAIMERS
F) Old boyfriend with a handsy grudge: trigger warning. D'andre is the bad side of the Alphas that many authors pretend don't exist:
This book is a perfect example of an Author showing us that the best kinds of Alpha Males look out for their ladies without being insane. Jackson is a gentleman who you'd let dominate because he respects, shares his feelings, is playful...etc...this book doesn't have any themes around subdom etc...but one can see how push and pull works between a man who knows what he wants and a woman learning to trust and care for a man through action and experience. SUPER+++
OK JACKSON: What a hero, he's so everything right and not a crazy jack-in-the-box alpha male
Sabrina is cute and sweet and just needs to be given the right kind of love and attention from the best kind of hero, she is a houseplant heroine, I love houseplant heroines, they grow easily and steadily with the proper care and you begin to understand her bulldog nature comes from experiences but she can also change when given proper care by someone.
This review seems all over the place, but the book is a true delight, refreshing as lately I've read a string of bad books and have had to go to oldies but goldies on my kindle
I hope we get more to this story, I'd love to know how this relationship develops. It seems there may be hurdles and happy endings.
D'Andre's situation is also something I'm curious about?
Issues of race were briefly addressed as this is an IR with a beautiful, short styled hair heroine with style and class but not as stiff and cardboard as you think when the story begins.
An issue some readers may have has been addressed in other reviews. The heroine is a little conceited and has some for old times sake thing with an ex who omitted a girlfriend he was on the rails with. This gets mentioned and puts the heroine in the clear. People often step into the familiar when they are stressed out and overcompensating or need a fix, she didn't know what her ex was up to and didn't ask, we all make consensual mistakes. Prudes or no Prudes or middling prudes, chillax.
