Bad acting ruins this movie.
Verified purchase
First off, this is the same old vampires try to integrate peacefully with humans who hate and fear them cliche movie. Secondly, it's got some seriously bad acting which honestly should have never made it off the editing room floor, let alone be called a movie. Third, whatever redeeming features it had in the last two thirds of the movie are irrelevant because the first third is just too hard to watch unless your handcuffed to a chair and can't reach the off button.

Relentlessly ridiculous
Verified purchase
This film can't decide what it wants to be. It's a rambling mess of ridiculous plot twists, bad editing, absurdly bad acting, flagrantly borrowed scenes, and jumbled fight scenes. All of this mess is to ask the question: "Can't we all just get along?" A complete waste of time.

Strangely fascinating & unusual vamp movie which is actually interesting
Verified purchase
I’d not heard of this movie, & you may not have either, but it really is worth your time. It is strange but enjoyable.Adrian Paul never looked so good as with this skinny mustache. Bakeem Woodbine and Bai Ling are wonderful. Intriguing. These actors made me care about the characters - plus, in addition to acting well, they looked really good! But an interesting story that’s not as predictable as most movies, and certainly a most interesting addition to the vampire canon of movies. But really, more detective procedural than vamp. I thought a good movie. Never heard of it before random chance on Amazon Prime. Was it in theaters?

In a noir sort of cool way it grew on me. Then movie ended and I wanted just a bit more.

I gave five stars for making me care about the characters for a change. Great videography, fantastic directing, kudos to the old school movie, I am not referring to the era-esq of the 40's WWII time, I mean the Big Movies with HUGE sets of the day when an extra could get a full face shot for a pittance.

And something really important happened in this movie that has been bugging me nutty with other movies lately==== They Didn't Do Breath Acting==== That means the actors were really acting how we could understand and enjoy the depth of the characters not acting out of breath because someone bumped a guy in a busy school hallway then starts breathing like he had just run around the school twice, in the rain, with no clothes on......you get my drift by now. (cue heavy breathing because I typed so much).

Must see if you enjoyed HBO's True Blood or Daybreakers!
Verified purchase
You will enjoy this gilm if your a horror buff. If you enjoy theatrical releases like Daybreakers starring Ethan Hawk or HBO's 'True Blood' which is more of a drama of the vampires effort to be accepted by society then its worth tge watch. Bookeem Woodbine is a detective who loses his partner by a monster attack. In investigating his murder he learns of the governments knowledge of the vampire effort to become a society. This can hapoen only if society stops discriminating against them and labeling them as 'monsters'. Unfortunately all is vain, resolving the murder and discriminating against vampires, if that government is corrupt with their own selfish agenda. In that case whose the real monster?

Why Woodbine??
Verified purchase
Not a bad movie, it was well written and had that gritty effect to it. Really enjoyed this film.

However... why would you cast Woodbine for this role? This, gangster, mob hitman, swagger fest of an actor was horrid for this role. He is supposed to be a Soviet, not a south LA gangster working for the mob and stationed in the USSR(at least that's how he comes off to me in this movie). Terrible casting. [-2 Stars]

Woodbine really does seem to act the same in every role he plays though... same character acting, different setting.

Nothing great - cheesy and horribly over acted
Verified purchase
The plot is ok. The acting is an absolute joke - very cliche and overdone. It's a very cheesy low budget kind of movie; most of the filming locations were old decrepit buildings that really didn't fit in with the story line. I took a chance on it while searching for something I hadn't watched dozens of times (it came with amazon prime), however I wouldn't recommend buying or renting it. Worth watching once to kill time (if you have amazon prime) and like me - are looking to watch something you haven't seen dozens of times already.

minority struggle

Interesting film where Vampires have largely pacified themselves in the pursuit of survival versus increasingly hostile and tech sophisticated humans ... but there are problems both in the Vampire regine and the Human society which could lead to apocalypse for one side or the other depending on how the balance swings. The film buries these themes under layers of style and human-vamp interaction machinations, but they are there for the finding. Many people will mark this as a 2 or 3 star unless they dig deep.
