After the death of my mother and her Bonded, I was relieved to find my own Bonds.
I was sure everything would be okay if I had them.
It wasn’t.
The fate of our people is in my hands, and I know we’re better off if I’m alone.
After five years on the run, I’m caught and dragged back to face the men I ran away from.
I thought I was doing the right thing.
Now, I’m not so sure.
North, Nox, Gryphon, Atlas, and Gabe may never forgive me, but one thing is for sure.
I won’t ever forgive myself.
Broken Bonds is a full-length reverse harem PNR novel with material that may be difficult for some listeners. This book will end on a cliff-hanger. It's recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations. Book 1 of 6.

Although this book does not have much spice in it I was hooked from the very beginning! I love all the characters and the mystery behind what is really happening outside of this college.
Oli is such a great MC and I cannot wait to fully learn about her gifts and back story and the real reason she ran from her bonds. You can just tell that she is such a caring person just by how she is with her new bestie Sage and I hate how everyone, including some of her bonds, treat her just because she "ran away". I also can tell that once it fully comes out what she can do she will be a total bad ass especially from what we saw of what she can do so far.
So speaking of her bonds.... I love love love the enemies to lovers trope so I enjoy more when the couple fight and have all this banter and like watching them finally fall in love. Not to say that I don't love the instant love and stuff, but I am drawn more to the bad boy types I guess you could say, but like bad boys that are actually softy's at heart as well, which I think secretly all our bonds are secret softy's and are going to worship the ground Oli walks on by the end of this series. So here are my thoughts on all the guys in order of my current favorite down to my least favorite... (possible spoilers to come!)
1. Gryphon: Man oh man do I love this man. He's like all quite and judgey and doesn't really even acknowledge Oli so the first half of the book your just kind of like ok he's there, and then she gets her period and he takes care of her and I just instantly melted for him! And the fact that he comes every night and leaves her clothes that she wears its just so cute!
2. North: Ok so we didn't get much of him in this book with interacting with her, other than just bossing her around, so you don't see him actually showing any interest in her other than him acknowledging her as his bond, but I have a feeling that once their relationship actually begins it is going to be so good!
3. Atlas: Now Atlas instantly was all about Oli and actually accepted her and didn't judge her for running away so he got points with me there. And then he just shows up and is instantly all lovey Dovey to her which is cute, but I still want to see the badass side of him and he is from across the country so I feel there may be some secrets about him we are yet to learn
4. Gabe: Oh Gabe.... I do love him, but he is just a little to boy next door for me. He's the jock yes, but he just doesn't seem like a manly man to me yet so I think I more enjoy seeing his relationship with the other bonds and how they treat him like a kid brother over his and Oli's relationship right now. I especially love his banter with Atlas so I feel a bromance brewing and will probably like that over his actual relationship with his bond.
5. Nox: Ok so right now Nox is just being an immature ass and I think he will end up being moved up the list once Oli and him actually interact more. Right now he just likes to insult her and rub other chicks in her face so I can't get a full read on him yet.
Now the ending of this book was amazing! I loved that we got to see some of Oli's powers and that she was able to shut Nox up a little by showing him just how much of a bad ass she really is!
Storyline/My Thoughts: The first book, Broken Bonds, by J. Bree, grabbed me from the first chapter. Poor Oli! She loses her whole family, her mother and her bonded, then finds out who her bonded are, but to keep them safe, she runs away. She has reasons why she ran for five years from them, and she can’t tell them why; otherwise put them at risk. She is forced back to them after being caught; four out of five of her bonds will make her life miserable. She is forced to do what they want, and two are essential to the council (all of them are since they are powerful).
I felt for Oli, but I could see why her rejected bonds were not letting her getaway. They hated the idea of being rejected by their central bond. Oli, though is going to be treated like crap by her bonds. They will humiliate her and even let her know they were not faithful. (Nox, one of the bonds, flaunts the women he’s been with in front of her, which ticks me off). The other women constantly flirt with her bonds in front of her, but it doesn’t bother Oli. She refuses to complete the bond with any of them. Again, she has her reasons, which could cause her death, her bonds’ death, and she refuses to let that happen, even if they hate her for what she is keeping from them.
I’m not sure how I feel about her bonds right now. Four of them have been nothing but jerks to her. Only one of them accepts what she did had to be for a good reason, and he’s clear across the other side of the country. Atlas, you won me over immediately, and I’m glad Oli has someone on her side. Nox, you can kick rocks. I don’t like you or your brother, North, even if you both are good-looking. (That may change in the later books). I did like Gabe and Gryphon after a while in the book. They redeemed themselves, but they are still on my poopy list. Gryphon does help Oli with a specific pain she was experiencing in the book. Oli was weary at first with him, but she thanked him for helping. I will say this, even though the bonds hate Oli, they won’t let anyone hurt her or talk too much crap about her.
I love how Oli has made herself a friend that accepts her as she is because her friend’s actual bond rejected her, and she feels for Oli. Grrr! Don’t even get me started with that part in the book.
This book is the first book in the series, so is worldbuilding in it, and I enjoyed it. The only thing is, I felt like I missed out on the storyline of where and how Oli met or realized who her bonds were in the first book. I want to know how you find out who your bonds are. I hope J. Bree goes into detail in the next book(s) about how that happens.
The drama and tension between Oli, her bonds, and everyone else kept me flipping the pages on my Kindle. I hated how Oli was treated, but she stood up for herself. She has to hide her real self (her powers) and be treated as having no powers, but she knows how to bite back with her voice. She may be young, but don’t mess with Oli, especially when her friend(s) and bond(s) are in trouble.
The ending was epic. I loved how J. Bree introduced Oli’s powers at the end and how she would be someone you don’t want to go up against because of her powers.
This is my first book where fated mates are rejected, and it was heartbreaking on both sides, but I could understand why Oli did it. Oli knows that she hurt her bonds, and it hurts her, but she has to do it to protect them. It will be hard to resist them in the book, especially when she gets to see them up close and hang out with them. They each are HOT as hell! I’m jealous of Oli, but again, Nox can kick rocks (for now). I don’t like him right now. He did something unforgivable in this book to Oli. I hate him! Don’t come at me, but I just can’t get into liking him. Here’s hoping he redeems himself, but for now, Atlas won me over in this book over all the others.
Overall, this book gets four stars from me. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to dive into the next book, especially with how this one left me hanging.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of The Bonds That Tie series and I highly recommend reading in order.
Trope(s): Fated Mates – Rejected. Reverse Harem/Why Choose? Slow Burn. Touch Her and I’ll Unalive You. Forced Proximity.
Element(s)/Trigger(s): Trauma. Bullying. Humiliation. Sexual Assault. Death of Loved Ones. Kidnappings/Abductions. Violence/Death/Murder.
Cliffhanger: Yes.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy New Adult Paranormal Romance with Reverse Harem/Why Choose in it, this book/series is for you.

It’s clever is this book. Gives you just enough to get you hooked and make sure you gotta keep coming back for more.
J Bree is a 1 click author from me. Literally could be a book of shopping lists and I’d probably be the first to buy it in all formats. That’s just how amazing I find her work. We’re diving into her PNR side with Broken Bonds and I am super excited to see where she takes Oli and the guys.
Would I have loved more of a backstory? Yea, definitely. I have so many questions. But that’s why it’s so clever, just drip feeds you enough so that when the end sneaks up on you, you don’t realise. Then you are fuming, and THEN you realise you have to wait to find out anything.
All in all, I love Oli and most of the guys (Jury is still out on a couple). Gryphon is my favourite. I need more of everything and I cannot wait till we dive deeper into their world 🖤

tracking device, starved, belittled, neglected and bullied by 4 of her Bonds. The men who are supposed to love her and protect her forever. The fact that they are sore that Oli ran away from them 5 years prior in no way excuses their actions towards her. (Spoiler) Where I had to draw the line was when one of her Bonded assaults Oli and then proceeds to victim blame and shame. It was disgusting because we all know that he will be forgiven and accepted into the Bond with her in a future book. Why this particular kind of violence is required in paranormal books is beyond me. It in no way added to the plot and it was disturbing that an author would so blatantly shame the victim of an assault. Turned me right off this series and J. Bree.

J Bree you amazing Queen, this series is like a dream, the Christmas present you really wanted and holiday of a lifetime wrapped all in one kind of feeling.
I know I probably sound crazy but I need to express how amazing this book is.
I’ve read some of these reviews so you get a good understanding of what to expect in this series. Gotta agree with some of the reviews on the actual book covers. I wasn’t getting it but they kinda make sense now but also if I was in a shop and came across the cover not sure if I’d be interested but seeing it’s written by J Bree well hello sold!
Anyway sorry waffling on but I’m just so excited and very happy.

I’m getting high school bully vibe but it’s at a university. It’s a twist of paranormal and fantasy too. And damn can these characters hold a grudge and judge with out proving their worth. Our selfless FMC aka Oli or Oleander hasn’t had it easy. Can’t imagine the life she’s lived before and now still suffering. Losing her parents 5 years ago and been on the run, she’s got a gift that she sees as bad like very bad. In this series it’s about a world of humans and humans with bonds, its very different and completely unique for this kind of read. Each person with a bond usually but not every single one has some kind of gift from a shifter, elemental powers or can be a healer for example. There’s a lot more and don’t wanna give too much away.
Oli found out when she was 14 just after she lost her parents that she has 5 bonds. So she thinking she doing her bonds and a favour and she thinks she’s saving them by going on the run.
Be prepared to get the tissues out as that girl has suffered and when 4/5 of her bonds can’t accept her leaving them before they ever met, can’t accept how she could just abandon them.
When they find her, it’s definitely not with open arms and she is treated so bad by them that you wonder how she’s every gonna get past this.
Some of the bonds are definitely not making it easy but definitely not helping themselves either, flaunting women in front of her. Acting like pigs, mental abuse is the worse and it’s hit a lot through the book.
Now with the end to book 1 there’s a few changes and a whole lot of questions that need answering but also sooo exciting to find out how it’s gonna play out.
Huge 10/10 from me. Definitely 5 stars and a highly recommend 😁

Oleander (Oli) lives in a world where some people get Bonds (fated mates).
She finds out at the age of 14 that she has 5 Bonds, however she runs away from them after her parents died in a car crash.
When they finally track her down 5 years later, to say they're unhappy is an understatement, and they’re determined to make sure she knows it.
What they don't know is everything she did was to protect them from herself and the resistance.
I get all the meanness/bullying that her Bonds show her, such as putting a tracker in her, giving her a curfew and no chance for her to get a job and earn her own money, as they think of her as too much of a flight risk.
What i didn't like was that yes, she left them, so yes, they obviously slept with other women, but to continue flaunting other women in front of her after they get her back, just to make her jealous (which, good for her, she didn't show) was a 🍆 move. If I were her I would refuse the Bond, purely for them cheating. Cheating isn't confirmed in this but it is heavily implied.
I loved this book, but there was not enough world building at the beginning. We know there are Bonds, but why are there Bonds, how do they find out who their Bonds are, why are there people with gifts and why do they have them??
I am jumping straight into book 2.

Oli has 5 bonds with her at the centre. When all of those are bonded their power increases but so does the relationship.
Although this series isn’t full of steam the storyline more than makes up for it and I have no doubt that the following books will add some heat. Oli is sarcastic and strong. She’s put others before herself for so long that people see her behaviour as selfish. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in book 2 after the revelations at the end of this one.
I love that I can’t compare this with 10 different PNR series. Each of the guys are so different and I can’t wait to see where the character development takes us. Right now I think Gabe and Atlas are my favourites, there’s something about Gryphon that I’m totally intrigued with and those Draven brothers?! Nox and North have me totally confused. Should I like them, no. So why do I need more from them?
An outstanding start to what looks to be a brilliant PNR RH.
