There way too much info and I hate giving spoilers so I won't go into any detail, except that it really helps shine light on books 1-5 and I'm hoping books 6 and 7 also relate to info found out in this one, there were a lot of jaw dropping moments. I was originally going to rate it 3/5, I loved loved loved the beginning, and mild spoiler here, it is heart wrenching, so much so that I struggled to continue reading because I was heart broken. However, since I know her readers, like myself, like the HEA, while this one isn't a fully happy story, the pain has a purpose, and I encourage you to read until the end.
Having read all four previous books, I had a strong image of how or what Atticus was. When I heard Erica was publishing his story, I was curious to see how she would portray him. Once again, from the first page, I was kept enthralled by her extraordinary abilities in weaving her story. If you’ve read the series, you already know the outcome for Atticus, what possible explanation could there be one might ask.
The story begins very early in history when America was not even a thought as yet. We are introduced to Atticus and Merle in their mid-twenties living in a time when the world was yet ignorant of the fact that there was something bigger and scarier than humans. Atticus is the last surviving pure blood member of the most powerful line of vampires. His bloodline can be traced to the original vampire. While out riding, they come across two village female vampires in the woods and briefly exchange pleasantries. It’s been said, that we all have a destined path to follow and one step off the path can have far reaching repercussions.
In the blink of an eye, one heinous act by a power-hungry parent literally changed the course of man-kind. Lives were irrevocably broken, dreams were shattered and one man’s insanity did what no war had yet to accomplish, bring the human race to the brink of extinction. Wonderfully written in heart-breaking detail, the story grips you by the throat and doesn’t let go. There is an especially moving finale and if I may be so bold, it was the only way that this story could have received the needed closure.
If you thought you knew all of his deeds, guess again. What was in the prior books was just the tip of the ice-burg. Certain things that took place and might have left you wondering were answered in this book. Keep a book of tissues handy as I dare you to read this dry-eyed. I absolutely love that, even though you know he crossed the line so many times, there is a theme repeated throughout which will bring clarity to his actions. It may also show you the possibility of how it could have happened to other family members as some of the circumstances were almost parallel.
There may never be enough justification for what Atticus did during his extremely long life, but the reasoning becomes clear very early on and then we are witness to the outcome.
In all of us there resides a monster; you just have to know what to break to bring it forth. An absolute must read in this series.
Top reviews from other countries

It is a great prequel to the series, which is giving me great understanding for why this character to be the way they are in the forthcoming books (which are previous to this book being as this was written after the others and this being a prequel).
The strength of love that is so intensifying that it is all so consuming and to thrive on it. To know that there is only The One and know that no one else will ever compare or fill their shoes, a love so strong that you would go to any lengths to love, protect and make that person so happy at whatever cost.
The tragedy of love when one part of a whole is lost to understand that your soul can be ripped away from you and to be left empty, to be unfulfilled without your significant other to drive you insane.
Yes, this book is not a happily ever after but this is an amazing story to what real love can be, should be.
You will feel very differently for someone you found to despise you will most definitely empathise with them and show them respect for their love that they found so deeply intense to lose it and have their very being and soul ripped away and left with the devastation of a character that has lost their forever and significant other.
This book will for ever have touched my soul and not be forgotten. This is the vampire version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

To Erica: Thank you, I didn't know that I needed this but I did. I'm now going to re-read the Captive series!

You get to: see very different side to Braiths father who was the king. Find out who Melinda's father is. How the king knew Camilla, why the king was always so evil to his children, Who Merle is/was! ....
Make sure you read all the other captured books first though before reading as their are some spoilers in their from other books!
I don't want to be a spoiler so I will leave it at that!...... Tissues at the ready and read it now!!!!!!
Ps Read on the web that there is to be another book in the Captured series!!! :)
