Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn't hoping for a career as a race car driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother and grandparents who were avid readers. She'd often sneak books away from them so that she could fantasize about those strong alpha males and plucky heroines. In middle school and high school, Melissa used to write sappy love poems and shared them with her friends and still has those poems today! In college her writing changed to sarcastic musings on life as well as poems with a modern twist on fairy tales and won awards for her writing. You can find many of these musings along with her latest releases on her website and blog.

Melissa doesn't believe in down time. She's always keeping busy. Melissa is a wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, a radio show-movie reviewer, owner for a publishing company as well as an author. Her home blends two families and is a lot like the Brady Bunch, without Alice- a large grocery bill, tons of dirty dishes and a mound of laundry. She loves to write stories that feature happy endings and is often seen plotting her next story.

Trey is on his way to becoming the TBC Pro-Rider of the Year. Unfortunately, a bull named Buckhouse ends his career and more. Trey wakes from a 3 month coma only to discover he is paralyzed from waist down.

There are stages of grief, and Trey goes through them all. He finally faces that he’ll never walk again, but foolishly he thinks that is a reason why he should send his fiancée away. Only when he reaches his darkest days does he conceive of a better future.

Trey’s journey is inspiring and heartfelt.
I cried, I marveled, and at the end I laughed with joy.

Trey Arking was on his way to becoming Pro-Rider until a bull derailed his life. Instead of wedding plans, he's in rehab with little or no hope for a good life ahead. This story is uplifting in every way. The author, Melissa Keir, takes you through the phases of what must be done in order to fulfill his dreams. I recommend this fine book for any reader who needs to lift up his or her chin to face the world after a severe accident.

This is a short read and I wished that Trey and Sara's story was longer. Trey's life has changed and he has to change with it. I thought the book to be slightly rushed but did this well. I was great for a short read.

I had no problem at all – it read perfectly fine as a standalone

Even though this is book five in a series and I had not read the other books, I had no problem at all – it read perfectly fine as a standalone. As for the characters, there were times I felt empathy for Trey, and other times I felt like kicking him myself – and then cheering him on as he moved in the right direction. I would like to have read more about Sara, as it seemed she was on a back-burner for part of the story. I really enjoyed the epilogue and I’m looking forward to more from this author.

Can love overcome or is it all just Broken Dreams?

I've never been a huge cowboy romance reader, that is until I started reading Melissa Keir. Her writing style is engaging and makes me wish I lived on a ranch. In Broke Dreams, we meet two lovers whose lives are changed forever by an accident. Can love overcome or is it all just Broken Dreams? I loved this one. While I felt bad for Trey, my heart went out to Sara. She's such a strong woman and an inspiration. Highly recommend!

Good story, but I felt it was rushed. I would have appreciated a more in-depth glimpse at Sara's concerns as well as a more realistic portrayal of Trey's journey from despair to full acceptance that his life was changed but not destroyed.
