About Brynna Jones
"I'm not sure where my love for writing originated from, honestly," author and artist, Brynna Jones, says. "My mom tells me that I've been doing it ever since I was little. My earliest memory of creating a story and putting it on paper was for an assignment in first grade. My story was inspired by a Disney movie I watched all the time, so, if I had to guess, my love for writing probably stemmed from the amount of time I spent in front of the T.V. as a child.”
Brynna was born in California, raised in Texas, and recently moved to Kansas. She lives with her mother, grandmother, brother, and fiancé, as well as a dog and seven cats. She has only just begun her journey as a published author, her first official publication being "Infection: Drabbles 1 (Legends of Night)," by Black Ink Fiction.
“I was so nervous, I probably proofread my pieces and emails a hundred times; I was so worried there was something I missed. When I finally hit the send button, I remember thinking, 'Oh my gosh, I actually did it!' Two weeks later, both pieces were accepted. To say I was excited would be a huge understatement. I've known since high school that writing was something I wanted to do with my life, so actually taking a step toward that goal felt amazing."
Although she is a devoted author, writing is only half of Brynna’s passion. The other half belongs to her love of drawing. After being given her first digital drawing tablet in 8th grade, her art teacher introduced her to V.A.S.E. (Visual Arts Scholastic Event), an art event where students could show off their artistic abilities and creative process. Brynna’s teacher asked her to join, so she did. Every year she submitted a piece, and every year she won a medal.
“When I was in 10th grade, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with my life,” Brynna confesses. “For years, even after graduating, I was caught between writing and drawing. It wasn’t until I joined a writing group that I began to make up my mind. My new friends were the ones to encourage me—and, ultimately, convince me—to submit my writings.
“I said earlier that getting both pieces accepted felt amazing, but that wasn’t just because I was going to be published. It felt amazing because I knew I wanted to KEEP being published. That acceptance email helped me make up my mind. I knew, at that moment, that I wanted to continue to write for the rest of my life.”
