Last Christmas, Dane Maddock was frolicking in the snow with his girlfriend Jade Ihara - Bones and his sister Angel in tow - when the twisted, Euro-branch of the Dominion decided to ruin his holiday. This year, Dane, Bones, and crew are up in Nova Scotia where Bones' crazy Uncle Charlie is ramrodding a crew looking for Captain Kidd's fabled treasure in and around the so-called Money Pit.

I am fresh off reading this excellent addition to the Dane Maddock adventure series and every time I start to type a highlight, I end up tapping the backspace key because I don't want to spoil any of the numerous surprises that Mr. Wood has in store for his readers. All the things that we've come to expect are here in spades: Action, mystery, adventure, legend, history, babes (as Bones might crack) - and of course - the bad guys.

David Wood continues to mature as a novelist and Buccaneer is his best work in the series yet. It is beefier, cleaner, deeper and more sinuous than its predecessors. I've read the series and, acknowledging what several other reviewers have noted, there have been a fair number of grammatical faux-pas in previous episodes. And while there are a few still lurking in Buccaneer, the number is down significantly from past books and that improves the overall reading experience tremendously. And to be honest, if I wasn't looking for them I'd likely have missed most of them.

It's been a long time since I've read a book that I didn't want to put down but Buccaneer is one of those books. My wife can attest that several chores did not get accomplished over the New Year's holiday because I had my nose in my Touchpad or laptop Kindle app. I can't say much more without getting into details best left undiscovered in a measly review. Mr. Wood's plot is excellent; Buccaneer is rife with well-developed characters and the story's pacing is perfect.

If you want a thrilling read that will hold your interest long after the last page is turned, Buccaneer is the next book you should read. And for those who might wonder why I graded Buccaneer out at 4 stars instead of 5? Mr. Wood has shown me what he is capable of, improving exponentially with each Dane Maddock adventure. David - you're a victim of your own success - and I know you can raise the bar even higher for the next installment!

Dane Maddock and his best friend Uriah "Bones" Bonebreaker experience and adventure that starts on Oak Island, involves King Arthurian lore, secret societies, old enemies and mythical creatures. David Woods continues his adventures of Dane Maddock. Although referencing previous books and the novella "Icefall", the book can stand on its own. An enjoyable read. Definitely prefer it to Clive Cussler's 'Dirk Pitt' adventures. I will continue this series and probably look into other Dane Maddock series

Plot elements may be discussed> This is the latest book in the adventures of Dane Maddock and his band of associates where they uncover the clues and solve the mysteries of various archeological puzzles and legends, and manage to also overthrow the plans of some variety or other of modern day world-threatening menaces that somehow all tie in together. Each of the books (I have them all) is a standalone story which has good balance between the archeological mystery and action sequences. The earlier books had odd titles, like Cibola and Dourado, that sound more like viruses and might be somewhat off-putting - but make no mistake, they are definitely worth the read if you like good ol' Indiana Jones type adventure. As usual, the crew are a bunch of misfits including the hero Maddock, ex-SEAL now archeologist/oceanographer/general hero; his pal Bones Bonebrake, a wise-cracking Native American Indian; and the rest assorted geeks and support types. There's the usual ancient mystery usually steeped in real fact and real legend; the damsel in distress; murderous bad guys; and lots of action. Buccaneer, which is set in modern times, has as a premise a very intriguing historical discussion regarding the famous pirate Capt Kidd and King Arthur. I never would have considered, prior to this book, any sort of connection between those two names, but this book makes the story an entertaining and somewhat plausible framework for the ensuing adventures. There is plenty of action and the pace never founders or slows with long-winded, encyclopedic discourse on the archeological matters. The only quibble I had with the book, for which I deducted a star, was the somewhat Disney-esque and touchy-feely ending to the story. I was immediately reminded of the conclusion to the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Not exactly original, and a bit cliched. But nonetheless, another fine installment in the ongoing adventures of Dane Maddock. Enjoy!

For anyone who loves an old fashioned treasure hunt,or adventure story, this one's for you. Wood's books are always fast-paced, with zero downtime or page extending fluff, his characters jump from one exciting scene to the next,fighting through dangers from more than one front,with mad skills & quite a bit of humor. And while the books in the series have continuing elements,and of course a recurring cast of characters,each book is readable and unlike most series that force you to keep buying books to get any resolution,these also stand alone and has a thoroughly satisfying conclusion ( To one part of the full puzzle) to them as mysteries are solved, treasures are found ,but foreshadowing & clues hint towards the next books focus. Highly recommend.

As my title says What can I say that I haven't said before on all the other Dane Maddock books I've read?........Brilliant just brilliant.
This series of books just gets faster and faster and this one is my favourtie at the moment.

I thought I would be reading about finding sunken treasure but boy this book twists that around on it's head and heads off in a totally different direction!
I can't speak highly enough of the Dane Maddock series, I'm only one book away from the last book, and I sincerely hope there will be more. So my burning dilemma now is, do I read slowly and savour the next book? No I'll read it as fast as all the others :-)

This time Dane and Bones are on the hunt to solve the Oak Island Money Pitt legend but this then turns into a quest for pirate treasure, that of William Kidd, and then into a mystery involving the Templers and Arthurian legend meeting up with enemies old and new and what appear to be a few mythical creatures. fantastic can't wait for the next installment
