All fears that you could possibly imagine are rolled into one emotion-packed page turner, as a rebellious teen named Alexa is kidnapped by a ruthless killer and buried alive in a coffin....ten feet underground.
A video camera mounted over her head allows her distraught father, Marshall Marcus, and the reader to witness every terrifying, anguished moment of Alexa's torurous experiences.
Nick Heller, hero of Joseph Finder's latest best-seller, Vanished, is asked by Marshall Marcus, a friend of his father, Victor Heller, for his help in finding his daughter.
As the reader experiences in very vivid detail, the horror of Alexa's captivity, the mental and emotional torture that is inflicted on her by her deranged captor, Nick races against time, to put together pieces of the puzzle to find and save Alexa before it is too late.
If you have claustrophobia, this book will leave you gasping for air...if you don't have claustrophobia, before the end of the story, you will! Buried Secrets is going to take you on one "HELLer" a ride!
Okay...there are a couple of clichés...is there anyone Nick Heller doesn't know? And must he be flawless in his humble manner? But life is basket of platitudes and we still love our heroes to be self-effacing. It's a five star read!

Brought in by a mega-rich family friend to find his kidnapped daughter, Nick soon discovers that the family friend is not quite as rich as was believed and that his daughters's kidnapping is just the start of a very carefully prepared plan to obtain highly sensitive government information.
The book reads well, the action is taut and the story develops almost seemlessly. The author manages to include a small selection of oddball characters, some of whom are of help to Nick, some of whom stand the test of psycopathic killers very well. His own social life, for a change in these sorts of books, progresses reasonably well in and amongst the search for the girl, helped, I guess, by his newly reacquainted squeeze who is part of the FBI team also involved in this search.
But it is Nick and his own office team who discover most of the detail which eventually leads to an excellent race against time as the kidnappers fall out and the girl is left to the mercy - or lack of it - of the afore-mentioned psychopath. For those of us who are big Landrover fans, the venerable Defender plays its part, too! 'Buried Secrets' is well up to the first book and Heller is more than a match for certain other individuals we have tended to use as reference points for comparison. It's a book which will grip you with an ending that well, makes you want for more. Let's hope book 3 is in work at the moment.
Never the less I did enjoy the book and would like to read more. I hope that Nick gets more physical in the future more dare I say Reacheresque. Other than that another good read
Cracking job Mr Finder
