Butterfly in Frost Kindle Edition
|New from||Used from|
A Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, and Amazon Charts bestseller.
From #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon Sylvia Day comes a hotly anticipated and passionate new love story.
Once, I would never have imagined myself here. But I’m settled now. In a place I love, in a home I renovated, spending time with new friends I adore, and working a job that fulfills me. I am reconciling the past and laying the groundwork for the future.
Then Garrett Frost moves in next door.
He’s obstinate and too bold, a raging force of nature that disrupts the careful order of my life. I recognize the ghosts that haunt him, the torment driving him. Garrett would be risky in any form, but wounded, he’s far more dangerous. I fear I’m too fragile for the storm raging inside him, too delicate to withstand the pain that buffets him. But he’s too determined…and too tempting.
And sometimes hope soars above even the iciest desolation.
Emotional and heartrending, Butterfly in Frost marks a brilliant return by global sensation Sylvia Day, the #1 international multimillion bestselling author of the Crossfire saga.

Then came the end of chapter 15 and chapter 16. I was totally caught by surprise. And that never happens. Turned me right around. And I saw everything I had misunderstood. Ms. Day is very good at distraction and camouflage. Guess what. BUTTERFLY IN FROST is a mighty fine little book.
I still have a few gripes, which I can't delineate cuz SPOILERS. However, I can tell you that I enjoyed the little bits of catching up with old friends that I got to do. All said and done ... read this one. Let me know if you were surpised, too.
I think it described the feeling of depression well. It might be triggering to some people dealing with depression and grief.
But plot wise nothing really happened. I was actually getting annoyed that they didn't say how they knew each other prior to their "first" run-in. And then he mentioned his wife and I thought maybe they were secretly married but couldn't let the world know because of the reality show. But no, that whole bit about the reality show was completely pointless. I'm still trying to figure out why that backstory was mentioned or put in at all. I feel like it took away from the main point of the story.
I loved seeing mentions of Gideon, Eva, and their friends from the Crossfire series!
This wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting and left new feeling very mixed.
ORIGINAL REVIEW - 1 Star:
If you had handed me this book and asked me to read it without knowing who wrote it, I would never in a million years have guessed it was written by the same person who wrote the Crossfire Series. I can't even comprehend it. I made it through about 85% of the book and just couldn't continue, it was so bad. There was essentially zero character development, which was the most disappointing part, in my opinion. I kept thinking I was missing something, like there was a book I needed to have read beforehand in order to get what was going on. They literally meet and all of a sudden he is forcing himself on her in her entryway and she just... goes with it. Then they're just like... in love? I really don't like to trash people's work, but I am writing this in hopes of saving somebody $8, because this book is certainly not worth that! I wish I could get my money back.
Enjoyed catching up with the beloved Crossfire characters. Answering my headline question: No, not sexier than #GidEva, but certainly on par.

It's the story of Teagan and Garrett, both individuals that have lost a lot, and are slowly but surely rebuilding their lives in their own ways. Their connection is instant, their chemistry off the charts, and though they have their difficulties, they made me laugh, even as they made my heart ache. And the final development had me on the edge of my seat, hoping everything would work out, just wanting to reach into the story and offer hugs and a listening ear. Getting to see just a few moments of Eva Cross was also a wonderful surprise!
This novella was endearing, and quite the emotional rollercoaster, and I enjoyed every second of it, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone and everyone! The love that Garrett and Teagan share is priceless and enduring, and it carries through the words on the page into the heart and mind of the reader.
