Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Buzzkill centers around the process of planning a wedding. Weddings are natural stages for drama, heartbreak, joy and panic. Most of the time the story has a happy ending and if it doesn't, it becomes an excellent exercise in character development. Weddings are wonderful things for writers to expose characters at their very worst. Betsy and her family are no different as they deal with the overwhelming details of the world of weddings. With the help of a wedding planner, things start smoothing out....until someone dies.
Even though I've only had one wedding, I've had the opportunity to be around hundreds of them. I paid my college tuition working in a very busy tuxedo shop. My job was filled with nervous grooms, bossy mothers, fickle brides, and plenty of funny groomsmen. It always killed me how many times the wedding party would start out fun and jovial and end up stressed-out, nervous and on the edge of emotional collapse.
Here are the top ten things I learned from working in a tuxedo shop:

  1. If the groom is wearing an "It's a Boy" hat...don't ask.
  2. If the groom hides the hat when the bride walks in...really don't ask.
  3. If the father of the bride tells you he has a 32 inch waist and you measure a solid 40. Don't tell, just order the right pant.
  4. If the groom asks about the color, it isn't pink; it's dusty rose.
  5. If the groomsmen ask about the color, they only have to be in pink for a few hours.
  6. Never try to get wedding tuxes on prom night.
  7. Always use rubber gloves when cleaning out the groomsman's pockets after the tuxes are returned.
  8. Every bride is beautiful and every groom is handsome, no matter what.
  9. The bride is always right.
  10. The bride's mother is even more right.

Buzzkill is filled with a little bit humor, a little bit of romance and is a classic cozy mystery. Don't forget to look for the recipes in the back!

Teresa Trent writes the Piney Woods and the Pecan Bayou Mystery Series from Houston, Texas where she loves the people and even the weather. Teresa includes Danny, a character with Down Syndrome in her Pecan Bayou family and in real life is the mother of an adult son with Down Syndrome/PDD. Creating the character of Danny and all of the other inhabitants of Pecan Bayou has been a joy for her. Even though she lives in the big city, her writing is influenced by all of the interesting people she finds in small towns and the sense of family that is woven through them all.
