Top critical review
I really, really wanted to like this but it had some real issues

I have a lot of older books that I would like to read on my Kindle when not home that are not available in that format. I though this scanner might be a way to get them in Kindle format so I decided to give it a try.
I was SUPER impressed with the look of the unit when it arrived. Very nicely packaged, and the construction of the device seems to be high quality. The first snag I hit, though, was when I installed the software. I used the included CD, filled in the long serial number, and opened the app, only to be told to go to the CZUR website for a newer version. There are all sorts of models listed on the site but not this exact one. I picked a close match, installed it, redid the serial number, and off to give it a try.
I was happy with the acquisition speed of images, and they seemed nice and clear - if the item is perfectly flat. As soon as I got to trying some books the pages very obviously showed issues with the curvature near the spine, so much so that the OCR process just produced gibberish. This was really disappointing, as CZUR videos show people happily scanning books and proclaiming success.
I also noticed that every scan would show my fingers holding the books open. No way to crop them out and that would have to be done post scanning apparently. Videos had some users using little plastic tabs called "finger cots" to hold the books open and the software happily removing them. Well, no finger cots with this model. No way also to automatically cop out things like chapter names or page numbers that appear on each page - at least not in the scanning process that I could tell.
CZUR needs to make it very clear exactly what model does what. There is no chart of features by model on their site. In fact, this model isn't even shown on the front page that lists available products. I checked on a user group and found I was not alone in finding this out the hard way. The videos showing how wonderful books can be done are apparently for other models. I re-read the Q&A section for this one on Amazon and see CZUR recently answered someone saying this model is for FLAT items. Well, as I needed it for books it's on the way back.
I will certainly consider the newest CZUR if it does deliver what they are promising in their videos but it's not on their website, not on Amazon, just on a crowdfunding page. I think the company has great potential but they really need to make it easier to learn which scanner has which features.
Other thoughts - OCR was fast enough but every file came out with every word underlined, every time. Some hint bubbles were only available in Chinese even when the rest of the app was showing English. The automatic capture on page turn was a very nice idea and seems well implemented.
