These hoses don't sit in the sun all day, as the sun moves across the sky, leaving them in shade half the day. Starting last year, after 3 years in service, these hoses discolored badly and gave the water the same bad plastic smell of regular garden hose. I've attached a photo of what they look like now. I will replace them with something different.
At the exact same time in 2014, I bought a competing drinking water-safe hose which is no longer sold by Amazon. Such a shame! The GatorHyde hose looks brand new after siting in the sun every day of the year for 4 years.
If your use is intermittent and the hose spends most of its life stored in a dark closet, then you'll like this hose. Or if you expect to throw stuff away every few years, it's just fine. I have rubber hoses that are more than 20 years old. Not a fan to making more garbage.
So, I switched over to Flexzilla. It's drinking water safe, stays very flexible (hence the name), stretches to an extent, has good ends and is pretty damn tough. I haven't had an algae problem with it yet but I'm keeping an eye out. It does let light through but hopefully not the right spectrum that algae needs to flourish like the Camco. If it does, the search will continue for a drinking water hose but I'll keep the Flexzilla as a wash down hose for sure. Mike from the Lifesaport live-aboard blog
Side note: Ever notice that products and brands that end in "o" usually end up with issues.
have uploaded pictures of the packaging. One side is in English the other I believe is in French.
Update 7/6/16 : I did find out this hose is not completely lead free. I forgot to come back an update the review. Still not sure about the BPA but would question it. I still have the hose, I didn't bother to return it for the price I paid for it. I plan on buying a bpa and lead free hose in the future.

I connected this one today. The hose hardware is far better than what's found on those short retail hoses. This hose is pretty stiff so I had to attach a small section of it to the basement floor so that it wouldn't curl up and prevent water from draining properly.
No leaks !
