Of course, each time Canon (and others) release a new series of printers the older ink cartridges become useless. Got it? This is pretty much a legal way to separate the consumer from his/her money. Stock up on cartridges? Why would anyone do that? Print head goes bad and the cartridges are useless so buy them as you need them. The printer "warns" you when ink is low (no, it's not going to run out that fast) so you have time to order replacement ink..
Canon practically gives these printers away. Why? So they can sell you ink that costs more than the printer does. This is not exclusive to Canon. Price out the ink for other brands of printer and you will find that they all play the same game.
For all that, I have to admit that the print quality is excellent considering the price of the printer. It's the ink that's sucks the money out of your pocket.
Once in a while, I've had Verve Cliqot champagne. It's amazing stuff, but it's pretty pricey. I'm happy to be proved wrong as this is all subjective, but I believe my favorite champagne is far cheaper than this ink. It's good ink, sure, but would it hurt to lower the price a bit?
Results are much better than any online photo store I've used - i.e. CVS, Snapfish, Shutterfly.
I used to work in photography and YES there is a difference if you print at home using Canon paper & inks.
The cartridges just do not last very long and not cost effective for me to continue to use.
I get about 50 4x6" prints loading up all 6 necessary ink tanks using my Pixma 7520.
After reading reviews, have been trying to 'push it' and print after lights come on to change ink. So far it is true that I can print a lot more that way. . .
Would LOVE for these inks to be cost effective because they are stunning.
