Definitely a Children's movie....

This is a very simplistic version of a truly good story. I was disappointed at the very truncated version. It isn't the acting or anything actually wrong with the is just SO MUCH was left out. It is only one hour (enough to put in my time on the treadmill) But the other thing is that Virginia is not a "little" girl she is a 15 year old and much more interesting character. Had I known what it was (also seeing the other Four and five stars) assumed it was a "good" version of the movie...IT ISN'T and if you buy it...while it has good is a very poor version of what should have been a good movie.

This is just an okay version of the Wilde tale. It appears to be a TV version made for little children. This version is from the 80s I think, and it has not aged well - the colors are terribly washed out. I think there are four or five (6?) movie versions. I have seen the one with Patrick Stewart, and it was much better than this one. Another reviewer suggested the one with Sir John Gielgud. I might look that one up.

Nice Older Movie

I saw this first when I was a child and liked it then. Now, re-watching this as an adult, I can see that there are many things that could have been done better, but for the time it was made, I love it.

what a delight to watch an older calmer version of the Canterville Ghost story

more kid friendly and clean. showed up by accident on prime video on my TV and I really enjoyed it. I've seen newer versions with ridiculous special effects that this movie proves aren't necessary to the story. I wish it was longer though - it seemed to squeeze too much story into a shorter time frame. I'm going to look up some of the other versions now.

This is not Oscar Wilde's Original Canterville Ghost
Verified purchase
If you like the original short story by Oscar Wilde, then this is not the movie version for you. The artistic liberties taken to make this movie changes everything that we love about the story. The only thing left from the story is a ghost that can't move to the other side and haunts the new occupants of Canterville Chase. That's it! This is however suitable for very young children that may frighten easily.

Surprisingly enjoyable

Jenny Beck, the child actor, was definitely the best thing about this movie. While the adults were sitcom stereotypes from the 1980s, Ms. Beck and Richard Kiley, the ghost, seemed to have genuine feelings. Definitely worth watching.

just ok

the story was brief, no real substance. the acting is ok, not great, the special effects was ok. the film was lacking. I watched the whole film, the music score was good but, production and direction and substance is what was lacking.

A sweet low-budget version, acting is ameatuer and likeable

Of course this is low-budget, poor quality movie. It is still a good one. Kiley is fantastic, and the little girl is doing her best but is really just awkward and real in many ways, not being a perfect little actress. I loved it.
