Randy Wayne White is acclaimed as "wildly inventive" (The San Diego Union-Tribune), "a wonderful writer" (Paul Theroux), "a fine storyteller" (Peter Matthiessen), and "the rightful heir to John D. MacDonald" (The Tampa Tribune-Times). Now he delivers a wicked thriller that sends government agent-turned-marine biologist Doc Ford into dangerous new waters, as a Florida fishing dispute escalates into a deadly war that reaches across the ocean...

Review
“The thriller Captiva is a lot like fishing...you are...caught!...One of the more dramatic finales in mystery fiction. White tellsone whale of a story.”—Miami Herald
“An enticing brew of hard-drinking, thick-skulled anglers, plodding detectives, and plotting marina bosses. White knows a thing or two about friendship, love, and honor. He also knows it’s possible for neighbors who share the same small island to appreciate and understand each other so little.”—Entertainment Weekly
“Edginess is what sets White’s work apart from the pack....A prickly, enigmatic hero...Ambience, compelling characters and straight forward suspense.”—San Francisco Chronicle --This text refers to the mass_market edition.

I never became bored or felt anything like redundancy which, if you read a lot, you run across quite a bit.
I would love to meet this guy, I bet he’s a trip to speak with in person! Read it, you really will enjoy the book, a pretty deep opinion of a lot of things going on in the world and time very well spent.
CHEERS to Mr. White.
I get to watch Ford at work with his sea creatures and feel bad right along with him when some of the come to harm. Oh, and I get to ride in his boat. I get the feel of the bay, the mangroves, the trees and flowers, the creatures, the sea spray.
White treats the net ban rule well, showing various aspects. Yes we need the ocean protected or it will be fished out. But what about those whose jobs and way of life are destroyed? Allowing netting by locals only sounds good, but how is such a rule enforced? No easy answers, just as in real life.
Doc is clever in how he gets one crook to fess up––would make a great scene in a movie.
This story has harrowing aspects in the horrible things that happen to those Doc cares for the most. Oh, but revenge is sweet when he cleverly consigns one murderer to a fate worse than death.
Hard to put this book down, even on a second read.
Congratulations to R. W. White for a superb tale.
