Ferromancers are gathering in her hometown, anxious to hear her response to Solon’s ultimatum: use Grayson to cure their ailing race, or see her hometown destroyed. They won’t be happy when she refuses to sacrifice Grayson, but curing them isn’t the only way to stop them.
Though her magic seems ferra, Briar’s ability hails from the Scourge, the executioners of the ferromancer world. Should she join their ranks and put that ability to use? Her uncle Liam thinks so—as do the dozens of Scourge he’s gathered. They want her to lead them into battle.
With no easy choices, Briar is left with one hope: Grayson. Legends claim that together, their unique talents can save his race, but so far, their experiments have ended in failure. With time running out, and a new threat complicating an already complicated situation, Briar must make her choice. Will she be the savior of the ferromancer race, or the harbinger of its destruction?

About the author

Becca Andre lives in southern Ohio with her husband, two children, and an elderly Jack Russell Terrier. A love of science and math (yes, she’s weird like that), led to a career as a chemist where she blows things up far more infrequently than you’d expect. Other interests include: chocolate, hard rock, and slaying things on the Xbox. She also finds writing about herself in third person a bit strange.

home to Portsmouth to confront a rouge Ferromancer (well, most of
them are rogue) who has threatened to destroy her home town if she
does not find a cure for his son's devolution (the final fate of
all Ferromancers).
Despite finding a number of surprising things about her own heritage,
and her growing powers as a Soul Singer, Briar is not at all sure
how to do that, or even if it can be done. Of course, if she can't
find a solution, her own time with her Ferromancer lover will also
be strictly limited. To complicate matters, the Ferra (the females
of the Ferromancer species) and her own unexpectedly powerful
Godparents have different ideas about what should be done, none of
which match up with Briar's, or with saving Portsmouth.
Frankly, I felt this wrap-up book was a bit of a let down. Briar
and her crew acted and spoke more like contemporary Americans than
they had before (the story is hazily set in the late 19th century),
and I started to loose track of all the rules of Ferromancy which
had been established. I'm not saying Andre wasn't following the
rules, but the explanations given were a bit fuzzy to me. I also
thought the threat to Portsmouth was a bit overblown given that we
ever only saw a few Ferromancers on the bad guy's side. I did like
that the resolution was not what everyone had wanted, but something
most could live with. On the whole, I would not recommend the
series with all the better ones out there, but it wasn't bad.
A wonderful story with the main characters - Briar Rose, Grayson Drake Martel, Perseus, Kali, Solon, Liam, Tristan, Lucrezia - Lock - the Crew - just to name a few. Briar and Grayson are on a canal boat trip to Portsmouth to meet with Solon and try to save his son, Tristan. Scourges, Ferromancers and Ferra are following them or waiting in Portsmouth hoping to derail their trip or kill them.
There is lots of hatred and death threats shared back and fourth by the Ferromancers, Scourges and Ferra. Briar, sadly, is only trying to make things better for all parties, but she barely makes it out alive, after many violent attacks. All groups finally meet in a showdown that is heart stopping and nail biting fantastic.
The ending was sad in many many ways, but satisfying also.
Within the darkness of this entire story laughter, funny situations, tenderness, loyalty, protection and true love still abounds.
An amazing book and a wonderful, but I hope not, the end of the Iron Souls Series. Thank you Becca Andre!!

It’s exciting and roars right along to the end. The action never stops and the the heroes and heroines tug at your heart strings.
Ever since I picked up Becca Andre's The Final Formula book, I have been hooked on her stories. They are so well written, with characters that you can't forget because you love or hate them in equal measure. This series, and this book is no exception, is another example of her amazing talent. I read this book in one sitting because I had to know what happened to Briar, Grayson and the crew.
I was easily swept back up in the story since it had been a while (and there have been MANY books in between) since I had read Corroded. But like all of Andre's books, the characters and storyline are so unique and memorable that it never takes more than a few pages to be caught up again in what had already happened and be excited to see what will develop. Like in the previous books, there is a lot of excitement and tension and several twists that I didn't see coming. I won't give away the ending, but it definitely was not the outcome I had expected! While I know it was necessary to end it the way she did, a part of me was saddened that it had to end this way. And now that I've been truly cryptic and vague about that, I'll leave it be 😉
All of Briar's struggles to save Grayson are a wonderful example of how true love works. You don't give up on each other when times are tough or things aren't going the way you hoped. It takes time, hard work and unwaivering trust to create a happy ever after. And while I know this is a fantasy book, their commitment to each other is very real and admirable.
Since this is the last book in the series, there were many loose ends that needed tying up, all of which were done wonderfully. It was a perfect balance of closure with adventures still on the horizon for Briar and her crew. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, this entire series actually, and highly recommend it. Just be sure to have read the first 4 books so you know what is going on. This is not the kind of series that you can jump into midway.
