Sarah was preparing for a zoom style viewing of the first intergalactic wedding. All her friends have left her for this maiden space voyage that can last a year. She couldn't leave her cat Loki that long, let alone begin to afford such an expense. But, she received an unexpected visitor after falling asleep. One Loki told she was a princess, so she could represent humans in a very important message. Because that maiden space voyage is treading into alien territory. And they're not friendly. Her friends need a warning and fast.

This is a story about learning to communicate with different languages and cultures. It is a slowly progressing relationship, because they're learning to trust each other. Well, when Loki isn't being a butt lol. But it's sweet at the heart of it. There's misunderstandings, but they learn to work through them. The little talks, mimes, and experiences that bind them closer together are what make a book special. To find a sci-fi romance, that's actually a romance, is a hidden gem. It's nice to find an actual romance in the romance section. Too often they're actually erotica, which has its own section. It's an honest literary category, but all these flash burns have shifted the dynamic in romance. And, to me, romance isn't romantic without emotions. You can have heat, but you have to have heart, too. And with the lead in for the following books of the series, I can see a lot of potential for this series with a variety of new cultures to learn about. The upcoming characters seem interesting, and we get to meet Sarah's friends. And maybe get some fun anecdotes from Loki about them.

Slow-burn Romance with an Alien Catman

First things first: if you aren't a cat person or aren't into pets, don't read this book. I have seen a lot of reviews complaining about the protagonism of Loki (Sarah's cat), but it adds flavor to the story. The fights between Loki and Carth'aiq (the Catman) are hilarious. I have laughed more with this novel than with all my reads in the last two years. Also, Loki made me remember my dead cat, almost bringing me to tears because of the similarities between Bastet and Loki.Another thing you must take into consideration is that this book is a slow-burn romance. They take it so slowly, you don't see any bedroom action until after the middle of the book, but since Sarah spends the first half frightened or in tears, it makes sense the romance goes at a snail's pace.Regarding the characters, you can tell I found Sarah a crybaby and absolute drama queen. Her numerous panic attacks (or "moments" as she calls them) got annoying after a while. Thank God she's more level-headed in the second half of the novel! Even so, I kind of liked her until she confesses why she doesn't want children near the end. Her words: "because f*ck kids" enraged me and made me lose all empathy towards the character. For me, Sarah was instantly erased from the novel. Blame my situation, but those three words spoiled the last chapters.On the other hand, Carth'aiq was adorable and caring. A true book boyfriend. I only had one issue with him, which is the reason behind my four-star rating. Carth'aiq spent a good portion of the book complaining about not having a mate and cubs because of his fur color. However, he magically had a change of heart after Sarah's open refusal to have children. I wouldn't have made a big deal of his new opinion if he hadn't lamented himself so much about not having a family. So, this sudden change of heart is detrimental to his character evolution.Also, this novel may lack in action, but it makes up in drama, romantic and psychological. So, if you're a drama lover, Catnapped by the Catman is the book for you.P.S. I'm dying to know why the cruise starship went off course.
