"Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion" for Guys

On the surface this is a fairly routine cloak-and-dagger comedy. The novelty of "Central Intelligence" is the role reversal in the casting. In a change of pace it's Kevin Hart playing straight man to a normally stoic Dwayne Johnson. Johnson is quite good as the funnyman giving dimension to his nerdy character while Hart responds with hilarious comic exasperation. I can imagine Johnson's role being played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in his heyday. Jason Bateman has a terrific bit as Johnson's high school tormentor. Not awards material but nice low think escapism.

Lots of fun!!

I am a big fan of both Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson so it is possible that my review is a bit bias; nevertheless, I really think if you give this one a chance you'll find it doesn't disappoint. There are lots of laughs, a fair amount of action, and a creative storyline that all come together for a thumbs up night of entertainment. Johnson did take some getting use to in the beginning of the movie because the character he played didn't really seem like his normal casting call, but as the story unfolds he settles into the role nicely. I do feel Hart and Johnson have great chemistry together on screen and could be a classic duo someday, however, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube match well also. Time will tell, until then give this movie a shot. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy the show!

From All the Positive Reviews I Was Expecting More

Normally I am a huge fan of the spy-humor movie genre. And with the casting of Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, you have the elements of what should be a really fun movie. Alas, in Central Intelligence, the brilliant bits and entertaining plot twists are overwhelmed by the plodding adolescence angst delayed for 20 years. Unfortunately, the absurdist parts of Dwayne Johnson as either a brilliant spy or stilted awkward adolescent trapped in a super-sized body does not work well as he swings madly between these two conflicted extremes. Kevin Hart, on the other hand, is brilliant as the high school overachiever who has settled into a life of suburban routine.
If the first 15 minutes don't engage you, switch to something else, because it will not got better (or worse for that matter).

We have streamed it, rented it and eventually bought it.The Rock and Kevin Hart are the perfect choice for their characters. There are so many laugh out loud moments to mention here but believe me, one would have to be the Grinch to not enjoy the the humor present throughout the movie. My family has watched it many times and it never gets old or predictable.

Funny, unrealisticly stupid plot
Verified purchase
The movie was funny. The humor was both adult and childish (slightly older than potty humor). It is an anti-bullying morality play with some well placed humor and many action sequences. The over plot message takes away from the acting and absurdity of a grown 40 year old man (heterosexual) worshiping unicorns and rainbows like a 8-10 year old girl. Too much of a stretch for me to get to suspension of disbelief.

The writer(s) use humor and action sequences to hide the morality play. Male nudity is used (just enough to not be R rated) to progress the plot. It is funny, but seems unrealistic in an adult sense. Then again the demographic is 8-10 year old girls.

I just can't get past Dwayne Johnson worshiping unicorns and rejecting relationships and still be mentally well enough to be in the CIA; politician would be more believable.

The Rock is a genius! GENIUS!

I was a fan of Dwayne Johnson before, but now I love him so much more - I honestly thought he did this role ingeniously. With a small look, he could go between CIA killer to a nerdy high school kid that never grew up. I call him an acting genius after seeing this. Keven Hart was great as always, but this film belongs to Johnson. I won't miss anything ever from him again. SUPER FAN now (not the creepy kind!).

THOROUGHLY enjoyed this film!
