The artwork here tells a story as much as the poem does. We see the children pick up trash together and clean up litter at a local playground. They offer food to a mother and son, and deliver groceries to an elderly woman while playing a tune on their instruments. They reach out and offer instruments to new children along the way, and help build a wheelchair ramp for another child. Their group of happy children grows as they offer instruments to new children, and march along helping others. They assist at a local marketplace, cleaning windows, painting, and planting flowers. We see a beautiful mural at the end, picturing all of the happy children playing their instruments, while a large group of people celebrates.
This is really a beautiful little book. The rhyming poetry was fun for our little ones to read and listen to, and the artwork really captures the spirit of helping others. I appreciate the message of service to the community, and helping those in need. In our modern society that is so often divided along political lines, it is nice to have a message that I think everyone can agree with. Picking up trash, helping the elderly, and cleaning up local stores are all hopefully things we all can agree on.

Amanda Gorman was introduced to the world as the inaugural Youth Poet Laureate when she recited her poem, The Hill We Climb, at the Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. And, WOW! Did she knock our collective socks off!!
Change Sings in Gorman’s first picture book. A Children’s Anthem, to change. In this beautifully illustrated book Gorman sends the message that anything is possible if we all work together. A young girl leads the story as others join her in learning that we can all make a difference.
I read this book on my kindle and, while it reads fine in this format, I recommend reading it as an hardcopy picture book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
