Chaotic: Arcane Mage Series, Book 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
Battle mage or magical engineer? Easy choice, right? Engineer, obviously.
I'm Charisma Carter, tech genius and nerd extraordinaire. I actually used to be Charisma Silverstorm, member of one of the six elite Arcane Families, until my family shunned me when I turned 18 because my magic wasn't strong enough. However, where I lack in magic I more than make up for with the tech I develop, if I do say so myself. Apparently I'm not the only one.
From the minute I received my diploma as a magical engineer, it seems like my world has turned upside down. Now, members of all six families are competing to get me to work for them. They're willing to use anything...from bribes to charm. It's not enough that the heirs to Arcane are walking sex gods, they also have a lot of money and exceptional magical skills.
As our paths intertwine, I have to try to stay true to who I am, who I've always been, and not succumb to their charms. But how can a girl resist when the future she always dreamed of is right at her fingertips?

I don't like going into plot specifics too much, but the gist is that Charisma is this super genius, mediocre at magic mage. She's spunky and clumsy but so damned good at what she does! She attracts guys from all across the spectrum, and each connection is so unique. It's just *chef's kiss* perfect! I can't even tell you how much I enjoy this story! I'm not a huge re-reader but this is going in my re-read pile for sure!
I really liked that Charisma is smart, awkward, and has a vulnerability to her while still having a confidence in her abilities when it comes to certain areas of her life (like creating tech). She was very relatable to me. She may have been shunned by her birth family, but she’s a fighter and I’m really interested to see how she may develop going forward while still being herself.
The guys that find themselves interacting with Charisma are intriguing. We get more info on some than others and despite their differences, each one has an interest in her. I enjoyed that the guys are familiar with each other given who they are but they’re not besties or an already formed unit. In fact, they each have good reasons not to trust the others which should make for some interesting relationship building down the road.
Most of Chaotic is setting the stage but major events do take place. The book does end on a big cliffhanger and I’m excited to see what’s in store for Charisma and the guys next.
1st - the lack of coherent plot direction (other than becoming a RH story, eventually) -- what is the FMC aiming towards other than romance & earning her own freedom? I'm thinking there's another goal we're just not privy to yet because the FMC doesn't even realize it......
2nd - not enough side character development, especially when the series seems to be pushing for each one to have pivotal roles in the series. I think some SC's were purposely written vaguely (Theo, for example); but it's hard to tell who else matters.
3rd - I feel like I'm missing key world development info. concerning the different magical properties available. I get this series is about mages; but a few questions I have (I don't list all).....
What exactly "defines" a mage in this world?
What are the power expectations?
How are there different "arcane families", what are their backstories for existing, & how does each family magic pool operate?
If you're not in an arcane family, then how do you have magic?
Why are Necromancers hated & when did it occur?
When did the rebellion start?
And my most frustrating question.......
Since Mages have magic, what is with the MET devices?! I work in Cybersecurity. I fully understand the tech side; but I don't get the different runes, how they work, how you create new ones, how your magic level dictates your power yet how does it translate to what runes you can use on a MET, & a lot more lol
Since most of my questions are on details; that's why I rated this the way I did. I still enjoyed the story, even though my only character connection is to the FMC (we weren't really given much, on the others, to form attachments). By the end, I started to feel connected to Blaze, Christian, & Bast. For the others..... I'm either indifferent, hate, or hopeful for more.
Also I wish charisma had a friend to confide in and not just potential lovers.
This book needed to be twice the size to cover everything that is going on. I felt that the title is really true it is chaotic and everything, but I wanted more about it each plot line.
All were interesting, but so many many questions.
I have already preorder the next book and can’t wait but hopefully a couple answers.

It is sloooow burn in terms of building the harem, be warned, which normally would put me off, but I am still hooked - I am invested in these characters now!
The story evolved naturally and none of the scenes felt forced, or rushed.
I enjoyed the pacing too, I feel like I have enough background to not be completely confused, but not so much that I'm overwhelmed.
