I purchased this book as a Christmas gift and I am very disappointed. Let's start with pictures or, I should say, the lack of pictures. This 187 page Charcutierie Board Cookbook has 9 total pictures. Each chapter has a picture about 3 inches by 2 inches for a total of 8 pictures; all the pictures are black and white. The main picture at the very beginning of the cookbook is black and white and 4.25 inches by 6.5 inches. The author claims these recipes are gorgeous but how do you know without larger color photos of each "gorgeous" recipes. I would say the vast majority of recipes have omitted cooking temps for the stove top. Oven temps were given for the ones I checked. Many of the recipes have nothing to do with the cookbook. For example, country casserole, noodles with butter, etc. Lastly, when you pay almost $25 for a cookbook you should expect a cookbook with pictures for every recipe. I would not recommend.

Given the description on the front and back covers, you’d expect this book to contain “150+ Gorgeous and Mouthwatering Platters…” along with pairing ideas to “Create the Ultimate Board.” This is not that book. I’m new to charcuterie and was looking for ideas to create my first board…for an afternoon birthday party. Of this book’s 186 pages, only 30 or so discuss actual boards. The remainder is a collection of eclectic recipes from soup to nuts…to Christmas cookies, salad, meat loaf, beef noodle casserole, and lots of Asian dishes. Thanks, but I already have cookbooks for all that stuff. What’s more, THERE ARE NO COLOR PHOTOS, only written instructions of how to arrange items on the board. Each chapter is marked by a tiny black & white photo of a generic charcuterie board having nothing to do with the actual chapter contents. They really cheaped out on what could have been a colorful and useful resource. Overall, I feel disappointed and deceived.

A good looking piece for any kitchen with recipes for just about any taste or occasion, the intro is a well-written overview of the meaning and history of charcuterie that is both nostalgic and refreshing. There’s a lot packed into this book and I can’t wait to try some of the recipes. Some of the recipes don’t seem to be tied to the art of charcuterie, but still there is something for morning, afternoon, evening, casual, fancy, and on-the-fly. A nice addition to any kitchen of any aspiring food artist.
