After reading The Doctor’s Daughter, my first thought was, wow, I do hope this will be a series with the other daughters of. Dr. Denby Bucknell. So I must say, I am so glad I wasn’t disappointed. The story will read as a standalone and definitely better as a series.

The story is full of shameful secrets, gossiping biddies, hidden mysteries, backbiting neighbors, a determined minister, a distraught Christian, and so many lies and false innuendos, that from the first page to the last, the story held my attention.

Charity Bucknell lives up to her name, she is always volunteering, working at the church, working in the community, seeing to the needs of the citizens of Virtue, and does it with a cheerful heart. But deep down, Charity carries a deep dark and painful secret that only a few people know about. This secret makes her feel unworthy of a man’s love, and she feels like she will be cheated out of having a family.

Pastor Paul Cambridge is taking over the Lutheran church so the former pastor can retire and move closer to their daughter. He is amazed by the work that Charity does in and around the church and for the citizens of Virtue. Paul is a widower, losing his wife and their son during childbirth. He did not have a marriage of love but more an arranged marriage of convenience. Sharing more of his past with his late wife, caused her to be bitter and resentful to him. He wants to be able to remarry but will another woman feel the way Emma did?

The plot is full of angst, secrets, pain, and suffering. No matter how kind Paul is to Charity and tries to get to know her, she tries to dissuade him and even gets hateful. There are several times when he takes her in hand with a spanking to try and bring her under control. What will it take for Charity to put a tragedy that was out of her control behind her and trust that Paul will not hold it against her? Two people, both with a servant's heart, are attracted to each other, but will their past keep them apart?

Couldn't wait to dive into book 2 of the daughters of Dr. Bucknell and Charity and the Preacher did not disappoint!

Patricia Green's vivid descriptions of another time, another place, all the clothes, food, characters of the "Gibson Girl" era in the small town of Virtue just transports the readers to this wonderful place.

I fell in love with Charity...she is 'her name' and works hard for others all while keeping a terrible secret from her past. Until the new Pastor arrives - and he's more than ready, very willing, and sexily able to handle Charity.

Each novel is a stand-alone but you will want to go back and grab up the first The Doctor's Daughter...and then keep grabbing!

The plot is clever - filled with secrets, pain, and private torment but also lots of fun and humor. I love the townspeople, all of the Dr.'s daughters (Patricia, they all get their own book RIGHT!!!) and I'm pretty sure Grammie isn't as daft as she likes to pretend!

There's a few 'shocking' surprises in store and this book kept me turning pages until midnight! Whew...that ending!!!

This is the second installment in this series by Patricia Green and is just as enjoyable as book one.
It can be read alone but reading book one allows you to understand the interaction between each character.
Charity Bucknell is the second daughter of Dr Denby Bucknell.
Charity is different than her sisters,she has devoted her life to work tirelessly for the church.
Charity has secrets, which has made her feel vulnerable and unworthy.
Paul Cambridge is the new pastor in Virtue,he has secrets of his own.
Paul has feelings for Charity but she keeps on rejecting him.
Charity is also sweet on Paul but is afraid that he will reject her once he knows about her past.
Charity continues to fight her attraction to Paul but often has a bad attitude,this leads to Paul taking charge .
Paul will not put up with her rudeness and Charity ends up over his knee several times.
Along their journey Charity and Paul face gossip,secrets,nastiness and rumors .The author does a good job exploring Charity's insecurities.
The story flows well and has a strong storyline.

Charity and the preacher by patricia green.
Charity and her family live in virtue Arizona. Along with her father who is a dr and her sisters faith, hope, mercy, verity and Joshua(verity’s husband who is the new sherriff.) Charity is the church’s helper helping everyone but she has a secret. Not even all her sisters know. She falls In love with the new preacher Paul Cambridge but she cant allow herself to marry him because of her terrible secret. This secret has kept her from marrying . She wont allow herself to even think about marrying . Paul loves her but cant fiquire out why she wont marry him. This story has a mystery that is very hard to fiquire out. In fact it kept me reading right through the night trying to fiquir it out. There is love and laughter and sadness and of course loving discipline. Faith and her habit of spreading gossip is almost Charity’s and Pauls downfall. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced ready copy of this book and enjoyed it a lot. I cannot wait until the next one

This is a very good book although I did not enjoy it quite as much as the first in this series, "The Doctor's Daughter". Charity is the second of the doctor's daughters and works full time (but unpaid) for the church. The Rev. Paul Cambridge is the new pastor of the church. He is tall, broad shouldered, young and handsome and naturally all the goes go weak at the knees. All except Charity and it is she that the Rev. fancies very much indeed. In fact he is more than a little pushy on this front and when Charity is extremely hostile he spanks her... often as far as I could make out. Now I found that a bit hard to believe. In the first book Mr Smith spanks verity but that is in the context of an illicit sexual affair. I cannot imagine a 19th century preacher behaving in the way our Paul does but this is fiction after all. Anyway Charity is turned on by the preacher so why is she so hostile? Ah, well she is nursing a deep dark secret which means, so she thinks, that she can never get married. Little does she know that Paul too is nursing a deep dark secret. Now in 2017 these would be neither deep nor dark let alone secret so the reader is on their side. The town however is ripe with gossip thanks to Paul's pushy ways leaving all sorts of questions. There are no great violent drams as in the first book just the torturous relationship between these two which can only be resolved by the lancing of many boils. That part is a great read. Charity is very well drawn and I rather fancy her myself but I wasn't so sure about Paul. Nevertheless a good read.
