A classic Disney 1970s Saturday matinee

Watching this movie brought me back to the early 70s and my childhood. We didn't have VCRs, DVDs, Streaming or Cable then. So when Disney movies came around you had to see them at the theatre.
Come Saturday we'd have a carload of neighborhood kids getting dropped off by somebody's mom and another mom would pick us up after the movie.
This is a typical Disney movie for the era. Challenges to be overcome, the outcome in doubt, but a triumphant happy ending in store. Fred MacMurry, Harry Morgan and Kurt Russell were all Disney movie vets, so having them in this movie only made it better.

Disney's biggest under-rated classic!

This was a regular Blockbuster Video rental growing up and as an adult, I still love this movie SO much! With a funny/often touching storyline and stars like Fred MacMurray, Cloris Leachman, Harry Morgan, Kurt Russel, & Ed Begley Jr, I can't believe this movie isn't more well-known. Do yourself a favor and watch this beginning to end, no cell phone, no distractions. You'll come out on the other side, a fan of this classic!

Fun for Disney fans

This was true find for me. It was a Fred MacMurray Disney movie that I had not remembered seeing, or even having heard of. The film is charming. The story reminded me, a bit, of "Its a Wonderful Life," but was different enough to keep me engaged. Mr. MacMurray was perfect in his role of a storekeeper who has plenty of time for his store, but none for his family. Kurt Russel was fine as the bad boy boy friend of MacMurray's character's daughter. Even though you know it is a Disney film, the writing provides sufficient suspense and excitement. I was very happy to find this film!

Excellent film on the important things in life
Verified purchase
This is a very good film over someone who discovers the important things in life such as family. While making money to support your family is good, to forget that there are other things to being a person to help make family life good are also important and sometimes can be the most importasnt thing. Knowing life is short, one needs to realize what is important and what is only necessary. In todays world, material things are not the most important things, but being loved and in love with one's family and taking care of them in many ways are the things that will count in the long run.

Second Chance for Second Rated Disney fare
Verified purchase
Charley and the Angel from Disney Offers Fred MacMurray as a father of two Pre-high school boys that apparently need their father more than he recognizes. The Papa is more busy making a living than living. Cloris Leachman does reasonably as the prohibition era stay-at-home mom. Kurt Russell is touted as being a participant (daughter's boyfriend then elopement husband) but actually his role is relatively minor.

Fred's (life) number comes up but snafus keep his ticket from actualy being punched.... Enter airborne but wingless angel Harry Morgan with folksy ways explaining that Fred has a second chance to be a good father and (maybe but unlikely) live/love happily ever after.

Now what? Family going all which-a-ways, trouble in general, a deadline - literally....

A simple non-attitude story blessed by those artists & writers that believe in simple blessings enhanced by simple special effects.

'course... I like simple and uncomplicated. This is Saturday Morning Matinee at the Bijou fare for the primary schoolers with some real facts for the subtle educational input for which Unca Walt was so famous.

In a single word : nice.

True to the Disney Spirit

Set in the Great Depression, "Charley and the Angel" is a warm-hearted, tender tale that boasts adventure and romance. A workaholic general store owner receives a visit from up above and must reprioritize his life: an eloping daughter, two would-be-bootlegging sons, and a romantic wife who wants nothing more than to visit the World Fair all call Charley back to earth!

I am so glad I found this rare Disney treasure!
