It does not disappoint. It covers an enormous range of subjects - again from the earliest times to the present day - in enough detail to encourage you to do further research if you need to, or simply to provide basic knowledge to satisfy a superficial interest.
It is well laid out with good use of illustrations and clear page layouts, and a comprehensive index, a useful glossary of terms, and a Directory of key figures in chemistry.
A useful primer for the student.
