Tired of driving cattle and staring at the hind end of cows all day, Chet Henderson and Johnny Strait decide to join the Texas Rangers. On their way to the Frontier Battalion, they find a small boy, the only survivor of a Comanche attack. Chet and Johnny decide to help the boy find his only living relative, an ornery old cuss named Jake Appleton.

Unfortunately, when they finally locate Appleton’s farm, they find the farmhouse burnt to the ground with Jake in it. They also learn that Jake was involved in a feud with a wealthy rancher named Renner. Both men were distilling and selling whiskey. Renner accused Jake of watering down his whiskey and undercutting the rancher’s prices. Now with Jake dead, Renner wants to buy the farm. The only thing standing in his way is a twelve-year-old boy and two greenhorn Texas Rangers.

What starts off as a simple mission of mercy ends up in a “Baptism of Fire.” Chet and Johnny may have ridden for the Pony Express and fought in the War of Rebellion. But now, they find themselves caught up in a feud over whiskey, treasure, and land that may cost them their jobs and their lives!

Writing has always been a lifelong dream. Finally, at 71 years young, that dream became a reality with the publication of my first book, "Da Nang Damned". This book had been buzzing around in my head for nearly 50 years! By drawing on my own Vietnam, experience, and years spent living in Northern New England, will hopefully, make this book seem alive, authentic and a great read.

A few years ago, I ventured into the world of Western Fiction. I am honored to have a great team: Dusty Saddles Publishing, Nick Wale - Publicist, and Katrina Turner - Social Media Guru. Currently, I have several Western Series on Amazon: Chet Henderson: Texas Ranger Adventure Series, Bear Willis: Mountain Man Series, and Willie McGee: Mountain Man Series. Along with a co-write with my granddaughter. In creating my Westerns, I wanted to do three things, be authentic, create likable characters, and tell a good story. With a lot of hard work and prayer, my books have been well received, so, I must be doing something right.

I live with my wife of fifty-three years and our cat Moxie on Rattlesnake Ridge, Maryland. We are lucky that our children, grandchildren, and great-grandson all live close by. When I'm not writing, I enjoy woodcarving, fishing, and pampering my classic Jaguar. I donate a portion of the profits from my books to Veteran’s charities, including the Veteran’s Independence Project.

I chose this rating because this was yet another outstanding action packed western from Mr. Turner. All of his novels that I have read have been awesome! I would highly recommend this one as I have the previous ones I've thoroughly enjoyed!

I've read & enjoyed every Chet Henderson book. This latest feels in a lot of info about Chet's early years. Lots of action, likable characters, and authenticity. What I like about Mr. Turner's books is that they are well-written, realistic stories. From the opening chapter to the end each story keeps you coming back for more.
