Jennica Ausdall enjoyed all the perks of being a wealthy widow in Chicago: an opulent home, lavish cars, and enough money to treat everyone around her like human garbage.
So, when she’s murdered in the parking lot of her son’s exclusive prep school, the list of suspects is long enough to paper over Wrigley Field. When Detective Shannon Rourke is called out to the scene, she catches a break. The murderer was careless. A series of clues clearly point to a specific person close to Jennica.
But after Shannon arrests her primary suspect, she begins to doubt her own evidence. Her open and shut case might go deeper than anyone is willing to believe.
Now, Shannon is left with a choice. She can go with the quiet, easy conviction, or risk the career she's given up everything for on the word of a lowlife two steps from a jail cell.

I've tooled around with writing in one form or another my entire life. Whether it was pushing keys on a typewriter when I was four, writing embarrassing poetry in high school, or working as a freelance journalist.
Now, I'm a moonlighter. I come home at night, I lock myself in the basement office of my house, and I whip up exhilarating stories that keep people reading late into the night.
And I've loved every minute of it!

There's a inbuilt attempt at 'romance' that seems to have been inserted on a whim - and is just annoying .... exacerbated by a (presumably) male authour predicting female reactions.
Then there's an annoying lack of an 'ending' - another of those silly attempts to get the reader to seek a sequel - no thanks!
The telling of the tale can be a bit simplistic and amateurish.....a good editor may have been the cure....?
Was the story great, so, so. I enjoyed reading it, it wasn't great.
would I read another of those stories probably not. I really
felt used when the story was to be continued by purchasing the
next book.
It is written with a strong, warm hearted female detective that has had a rough life, but is on the side of the good guys.
Simply a great series of books!
The familial thread is woven with care. The locale of the story seems to fit with the real life themes of a large cosmopoilitan area.
