I venture into Sci Fi selectively. The blurb grabbed me on this one. I’m glad I tried it. I read this in one sitting because I lost track of time. The story is twisty. The plot moves along quickly. The characters have a surprising amount of depth. There’s lots of hope as you ride along with Dez as she tries to unravel the enigma. The creepy investigator is a strong character that adds a great flavor. The scout is a mystery that I suspect will thread through the series. The future setting is very realistic and pulls you in. The book wraps up nicely, but I'm definitely going to follow these characters. Well done. Easy five stars.

A young researcher finds herself on a path of discovery that presents all kinds of threats. As the threats close in, she just keeps going. It’s an engaging hero’s journey formed in difficult circumstances. There are some interesting references in the future world about how the US lost democracy. So timely! Makes you think. The characters are solid. The pacing is great. Lots of room for this series to expand. Kept me turning pages to the end. Can't wait for the next installment.

Took a chance on this. New author. New book. Loved. So good. It’s a twisty mystery from a few different angles. Really liked how all the stories came together in the end. A cool future world that is totally believable. Think Handmaid’s Tale and Hunger Games. Very believable and fully brought to life. Great characters that you want to know more about. Very glad there are more in the series. And I loved that all the major players are women: girl power! Sum up: a smart, believable mystery with a rapid fire pace and great characters in a future setting. Yes!

What’s not to love about this story? It’s a gripping mystery, rolled into a fast-paced thriller, set in a very real, gritty future. It’s a David vs Goliath, Luke Skywalker vs the Empire tale with a young determined researcher digging into hidden secrets that threaten the family that sits atop a sinister surveillance state. Lots to dig into here. Oh, and the heroine is smart, authentic, and compelling. Sign me up for book two. Pronto.
