Now, the part you will need to be mindful of as a parent: one of the main characters, George, is actually a girl. If you've previously read Nancy Drew, you already knew that George's real name is Georgina. You may also know that this character has constantly evolved in style, but is typically depicted as a girl who is a tomboy. Since 2018, illustrations and dialogue have altered her character to be openly gay. Since this publication is from 2006, I don't know if that was clear at this point in time or not. However, in this book, George is consistently depicted through the illustrations as having short hair and wearing shorts and t-shirts rather than leotards. I honestly thought George was a boy (as I didn't read Nancy Drew as a kid and have prior knowledge about her) until I noticed the pronouns used for George are she/her. I say all this to say that you may have to have the conversation with your child about why George appears to look more boyish, yet is referred to as a female. So, if that is something that conflicts with your personal beliefs/views, or is a conversation you may not be ready to have with younger children who may read this book, you may want to pass on it.
She has also gotten her best friend hooked on these books, and they developed a cute trading system, so that they don't both buy the same books, and once they finish a book, they trade it with each other for books they haven't read yet!
The fun thing about these books is that they're an easy read, the mysteries and plot twists are not so complicated that a young reader or listener can't keep up, the subject matter has so far always been age appropriate as has the writing and themes (ie, no romance, nothing scary, nothing adult, etc), and there are enough clues in the story that your child might actually figure out the mystery before Nancy does (leading to an immense sense of satisfaction for your child).
We love these books. Highly recommend them.
Read in any order- Classic Nancy Drew stand alone greatness in almost every one.
