This is a pretty good tale of a woman, Heather Nelson, an LA private investigator, that returns to her hometown in the Quad Cities in Iowa.
A lot of secrets, lies and creepy characters... I was able to figure out what was happening about halfway through this book, but it was still a quick and fun read.

While at the reunion a bouquet of flowers is delivered with an ominous message. Who is the message for? I loved the twists and turns in this story! So many suspects but who is hiding a dark secret? You won't want to put this book down! I highly recommend it!

Heather lives in Los Angeles & makes good money as a successful private investigator. Many of her clients are wealthy celebrities. She's mostly hired to surveil cheating spouses for divorce cases. She has never been engaged or married. It's because of what happened to her younger sister in high school & what Heather did about it afterwards. Heather's best friend Lindsay is the only person she had told what she'd done that awful night. And, now Lindsay is dead.

Heather goes back home to Iowa to express her condolences to Lindsay's mother in person & to attend her 20th class reunion dedicated in Lindsay's memory. At her table, a waiter approaches with a floral arrangement of forget-me-nots with a card that says "you deserve to die". There's no denying the fact that the disturbing message reads like a threat. The next card arrives in the mail with the words "once a killer, always a killer".

Someone has discovered her secret! Had Lindsay broken her trust & told someone??? Someone extremely dangerous is targeting Heather & her former classmates. They make a list of possible suspects. Heather runs some background checks & pursues some leads. But, her friends are starting to think she's a psycho loner who's come back to bump them off. Someone knows what she did!

It makes sense to her that a woman is behind what's happening. The vengeful notes & the flowers aren't something a man would gravitate toward. Her suspicion that Lindsay had been murdered cannot yet be backed up with evidence. But, she does eventually find the connection she had been searching for - the missing link - and the investigation takes an abrupt change of course.

A woman whose desire for revenge has festered for 2 decades is coming after Heather & her once tight-knit group of friends. Lindsay's so-called accident had been a meticulously planned murder & the perpetrator isn't finished yet.

A Class Reunion for some can be a celebration, reuniting with old classmates and reliving fond memories, but for Private Investigator Heather Nelson and the group of friends she left behind in Iowa a decade earlier, it could be murder! Someone is out for revenge and they will do anything to get it!

I found the plot for this story to be interesting, it kept my attention and the use of a school reunion as the backdrop, was a good foundation to kick things off. The mystery is well played out, kept me on my toes and everything is all brought together well and gives the characters as well as the reader closure.

N.L. Hinkens has done a good job in the story’s execution and it’s structure, as she takes the reader from present to past. There we learn of the secret that Heather has been keeping and the circumstances that lead her to flee Iowa hoping never to return, as well as why she felt she had to come back.

I have to say I wasn’t particularly fond on any of the characters, expect for Heather and her sister Violet, but they all do play their parts well. They all have secrets buried deep within, threatened to be exposed and as you get deeper into the story, each gives the reader doubt of their motives.

The Class Reunion has been well written. The pace is fast, the twists and turns lead you down different routes, keeping you guessing and is overall an enjoyable reading experience. This is my first book from N.L. Hinkens and I will definitely read more from her.

It was a pleasure to read and review The Class Reunion, which I recommend.
