How to get out of trouble…not easily!

Wow! How Maria and Hudson got out of the mess they got into was a testament to how well this author writes! After reading the first couple of chapters, it was clear to me this was not going to be an easy task. I loved how this sweet, obedient daughter took steps to get herself out of the mess her parents put her in and though not strong, she learned to be. Hudson’s journey was not easy for him as well and it was good to see his growth and maturity within the Remington clan. Grandma, as always , is a hoot. There is a trigger to this story, but not spelled out, so it should not be a problem . The cliffhanger still hangs on, but soon to be resolved! Enjoy the ride!

This plot had potential. But the author chose to avoid the emotional drama that would have created more suspense, poignancy, and ultimately more connectedness to the main characters.

Spoiler alert, though it occurs in the first chapter.

In short, we learn from the accusations of a maid in the villain’s household that he is a very bad man who enjoys hurting women for sexual gratification. The villain himself confirms this accusation by bringing a riding crop to the wedding night. But he conveniently realizes last minute he must relieve himself before sexually abusing his new bride leaving her with the opportunity to flee out a window before the marriage is consummated.

If this were a RomCom, I could understand avoiding the dark realities of the underlying plot, but there wasn’t a funny bone in this installment. Instead, too-convenient remedies are the theme to developing the plot.

The writer is talented, and most will likely enjoy the journey, though some of you might feel like you missed some important destinations along the way as I did.

I will say that the teaser for the next book has me hooked. I hope that the characters as presented in the first chapter are given the rich character development they deserve.

Another clue to the mystery is found in this wonderful story of Maria and Hudson. A peek of their attraction was seen in the last book. Maria needs to marry to save her family. Her parents marry her off to a horrible titled man. Just as he comes to her with a riding crop she escapes! She is brought to the physician, Hudson. Here the love story truly begins! Secrets, fire, and seduction make this a book I couldn’t put down!

Maria and Hudson's story does not follow your typical boy meets girl. It deals with some deep issues, arson and lots of emotions. What these two go through to be together is probably hard for anyone to go through and come out with a positive outlook. But they do and in the end the better for it. I read this story for an honest review.

I found the two main characters boring and forgettable. The female's actions in running away from her new husband while understandable were somewhat unbelievable in that all she had was her maid's stories and the husband's reference to a riding crop (and then!! leaving unbelievably to take a pi**!!). It seemed more comic than threat. There was no real suspense as the actions were easily anticipated and the final resolution was as expected.

The Remington family is so much fun to read about, and The Clue Of The Brilliant Bastard is another fantastic addition to the series. Lady Maria marries a cruel, violent man and flees, ending up injured on the doorstep of Dr. Hudson Lewis. Hudson and Maria have admired one another from afar. The couple is now in an untenable situation. Maria is married to a monster yet falls irrevocably in love with Hudson. The two must face impossible odds and danger around every corner to fight for their happily ever after.

The forbidden love between Hudson and Maria is written in a way that I was drawn to the couple and wanted nothing less than their happily ever after. Hudson is the illegitimate son of a duke; he has carved out a good, if lonely, life for himself until he sees Maria and realizes too late what all he could have had. Maria has continuously allowed others to make her choices; this places her in the bed of a monster. I love how even though it is an impossible situation and it is too late, Maira finds the courage to fight for her future. Maria has incredible courage.

Hudson and Maria’s romantic journey is dangerous and heart-wrenching at times. The couple’s passionate connection is lovely to witness. The Clue Of The Brilliant Bastard is the third book in The Remingtons Of The Regency series. These books are best read in order due to an ongoing mystery that develops throughout. This forbidden love story captured my heart and attention from the very beginning. This is an exciting page-turner. I love Ellie St. Clair’s writing; it grabs the reader’s attention from page one, and we are on a passionate journey fraught with peril but ending in love. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book. It is the third series of Remingtons of the Regency. It tells the story of Hudson and Maria. Maria’s parents arranged a marriage between Maria and Lord Bradley Dennison.
Whom they thought was a kind, respectable Lord.
He was in fact a very cruel man and slapped Maria in the carriage from the wedding breakfast to his home.
Once they arrived at his home she was sent to undress and she wanted nothing to do with him.
He arrived at their bedroom and then decided he wanted to use the toilet, so when he was gone she jumped from the bedroom window, to the garden. But in jumping she hurt her ankle. But run she did.
She couldn’t find where a family friend lived but ran on and on until she fell in the road, where a very kind man picked her up and took her to another family friend who was a Doctor. Who welcomed her in and took care of her injuries. The cruel man (husband)
Was looking for her, but she was tucked up in the Doctors bed. Safe and secure.
Much trial went on throughout the book and I really didn’t want to put it down. I enjoyed it very much
And the family friend and her big family helped Maria when the horrid husband came looking for her.
I believe Mrs St Clair will be publishing book 4 later this year, and I am really looking forward to this..
Such a colourful and interesting and worrying book.
I have enjoyed reading each one of them.
