they didn't go to the funeral , or do anything, that we can see, except make an offhand joke. they just continue on their trip from the east coast to california, stopping in cities, along the way to work out their problems, with people and each other, on their way to their son's wedding. it is not a happy movie. there is a lot of turmoil.

Somehow, I had never heard about this film. Where was I when it came out? Anyway, better late than never. This was a most entertaining movie with an engaging story, a strong cast (Judy Davis and Richard Dreyfuss), and excellent production values. The dialog was just snappy enough to be interesting without being superficial, and the whole affair was nicely punctuated with genuine humor. A heartwarming story that's well presented. Overall: excellent
